Systemic oppression and institutional oppression is the ongoing narritives concerning ethnic oppression or racial disparities.
I'll mention again that this series will inspire the worst intentions in those seeking to exploit ethnicity or racial biases for personal gain or in efforts of continuing to opress people. The singular of oppression is opress? It looks wrong for some reason. Mentioning Elizabeth Key and her struggle toward equality as an effort to inspire the opressed that they too can navigate the legal system or institutionalized racial bias while creating a meaningful difference toward ending bigotry or gaining equality themselves. Will obviously also inspire resentment and bitter hatred from those that consider her some sort of sell out of cheat for succeeding while they continue to be opressed by the same system that she found validation from? It's the observed behavior I notice whenever someone succeeds. Instead of joining there's animosity or resentment. The notion of her, Elizabeth's, fortunate circumstance not also creating success all others can take advantage in or be a part of. Something of those succeeding having to bear the burden of those still struggling simply for their being successful.

I truly do appreciate this video. Oftentimes, especially when I was taught APUSH, we quickly skimmed over the history of enslaved people avoiding the reality of our nation. Knowing that crash course is taking the time to make these videos gives me hope for the future as more students will learn the truth about American History. Thank you again.

It's is important that these individual human stories are covered by Crash Course videos because, when we attempt to paint history in broad brush strokes, it is easy to lose touch with the individuals who forge that history.

Great story! I hope next time you go deeper into how Elizabeth Key's victory resulted in the creation of laws ensuring children born to enslaved mothers were also enslaved regardless of who their fathers were (e. g, enslaver or enslaved.
