Fun fact: Borges's translations and methods are still discussed in uni courses because he was super polemic as a translator. He believed in creative infidelities aka he prioritized the quality (by his own subjective measure) of the final text over being faithful to the original and took A Lot of liberties. On a separate note, with the rise of AI and so many people believing human translators have become obsolete, I really appreciate you using this last episode to shout out the incredibly important work we do to bridge languages and cultures

Thank you so much for making this series! It was so insightful and inspired me to research more about a new form of literature for me. I have been learning Spanish for a few years now, so I was really excited to hear this course was made. It's a little saddening that we reached the end of the course, but the topics discussed in this episode were good ones to conclude with.

I just want to thank you and the crew for all the hard work that goes into making these videos. As someone who likes to write, I'm always looking for inspiration. Now I have a number of literary works to dive into. And that's the best gift you could give me. That and a new need to learn the original language so to get the full expereince.

I feel like I learned some things about Latin American literature through this course. I'd love to see a Crash Course on Latin American History or 20th Century Latin American History, or Latino American History, or maybe a History of the U. S. -Mexico border.

What do you mean this is the last episode No te vayas.
De veras gracias a todo el equipo, thank you everyone for this amazing piece of art. You have inspired me in ways you can't imagine.
I am already waiting for a version 2.

I'm a big fan of this series. It's gotten me into reading more works by Latino authors and finding some of the cultural connections that I didn't quite get in high school with mandated Anglo readings.

8: 13 BWUH, what was that previous translator thinking just omitting whole sentences just bc they couldn’t figure out the meaning Good lord, and I thought FFVII’s original translation was crap.

I loved this video! This discussion is as important now as never; with the AI, people started talking if translators will become irrelevant.

Massive mistake making this the last episode of the series. I hope the series returns on Crash Course (and remains a permanent series.
reply

translators can't JUST speak another language - they need to understand the subtleties of both languages - that's a skill
