The Honorable Booker T. Washington was living in a different life time that opened the door for an Honorable W. E. B DuBois ideology. The Honorable B. T. Washington ideology allows for an individual to be self reliant and therefore have a much grater success rate if everyone does it. We are living the Honorable W. E. B. DuBois's ideology. We have Opra Winfrey, Bill Cosby, Kanye West, and Jay Z who are all very wealthy, but the -tenth- can not support the rest of the Minorities in America. The thought that there was even a discussion of comparisons is a brain fogg to me. For one others must trust the tenth to do what is right and a few can be manipulated, but if everyone has a different skill set then we can take care of each other without going out side the community. I know I am younger, but I have lived this experience. The dialogue is entertaining but the facts are that the most benefit for all is for everyone to find their own nitch and be the best they can be at it. I cast down my bucket and looked at what would be the gratest, most amazing job that I could reasonably do and enjoyed doing. So that is what I did. These are two of the Most Honorable Individuals I will be glad when the dialogue ends that makes them compete for the space the both share. If Honorable El Hajja Malcolm X and Honorable Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior could not get the United States of America to end its perverted distortion of reality and treat all humans with respect and decency then that says alot about these UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and any NATION associated with it. THE TRUTH IS STILL SELF-EVIDENT!

I see a bunch of people fighting in the comments, so I am going to give my input (feel free to disagree, my knowledge on the subject isn-t infinite. DuBois-s ideas were right, but he strived for rapid change, while Washington strived for gradual change. Washington grew up as a slave, so he knew the extent of the inequality, which is why he aimed lower then DuBois. Foresight is 20/20, and so while we look at this now and are appalled at some of Washington-s ideas, he was attempting to cater to the whites, as they had the political power. The rivalry, from my perspective, seems to be between what is morally right (DuBois, and what is reasonable (Washington.

Had they worked together we-d be so far advanced by now. Washington fought for trade and skills of blacks to create ownership.
Dubois fought for literary education and voting rights which if these two ideas coupled together has happened would have prevented redlining, unequal wealth distribution, housing and marketplace discrimination and so on.

I like W. E. B. Dubois's approach to leading blacks out of oppression. And that was ultimately being a part of the political making process. For Booker T. Washington's approach, blacks would always be in a submissive state always subject to total manipulation by the oppressor.

I'm a Mexican and so far I know you got Washington wrong. I would run away from Du Bois, he wanted to be given everything the government could give him and HE would chose how and who to give it to.
That's scary.

Economic uplift meant first. Cant fight for rights when you-re not making your own opportunities. We-re entitled to nothing other than what we create. Remember that the real meaning of Utopia is -nowhere- a dream.

Getting a degree and working for someone (even if you're well paid) is not power. Owning and controlling your own economy is. This video is backwards as to how it presents Washington and DuBois.

So This Is Just Like MLK Jr. Vs. Malcolm X In Terms Terms Of American Education Nowadays And I THought Mary McCloud Bethune Was Right To Be An Educator This Whole Time!

Booker T Washington deserves way more respect. You follow your Utopian prince. We are moving back to Frederick Douglas, Marcus Garvey, and Booker T Washington.

I always thought this would be a fascinating topic for a movie. Denzel Washington as Booker T and Melvin Van Peebles as Dubois perhaps.
reply

This video doesn-t represent Booker T. Washington-s position as voiced in his autobiography. Of course, it-s only a short clip.
reply

Dubois was apart of the Black Boule and he was part of the group that got Marcus Garvey deported from the USA.
