I have trouble when I'm in the supermarket when I buy tropical fruit such as mangoes, dragon fruit & papaya!
Every time I buy it, the fruit disappears off the shelf & they often have trouble keeping them restocked, no wonder I'm going to eventually plant seed trees of papaya, mango, etc!
That's so that I can grow my own & not to have to worry about that!
I'm currently raising seedling trees in 200 mm diameter pots although I have some Longan seedlings germinating in yoghurt pots!
The red & yellow papaya seedlings I have growing in tin cans so I can just plonk them in the ground as is so the root system won't be disturbed!
My late grandfather did that up until 2001 when he was diagnosed with having an allergic reaction to latex, he used to grow them & eat them for breakfast!
I'll eventually have 9 Hass avocado trees & I'll give one to my dad, I'm not sure how it's going to fruit where I'm going to plant it as it won't get sun until the afternoon & that's in a semi shaded area!
I'll give him one of my Calypso mango trees as well, I'm aiming to have 2 plants of each type for myself.
I'm using a couple of old tyres to build up the mound & to stop our neighbours chooks or possums from scratching all of the mulch & manure mix away from the base of the plant!
It seems that our neighbours get upset with me as they just let their chooks out!
I'll keep 8 Hass avocado plants for myself & up to 10 mango plants for myself & plant them somewhere else as it looks like I'm not going to live at my parents house past this year!
