I was a cop for 20 years; EVOC training was a yearly training event. Scotty is right; hold the wheel at 9 and 3 and for the curves we used the saying, In slow-out fast to remember the curves. Brake before and once the curve is negotiated, speed up as capable. One last thing, we had a deputy die in a crash when I was a rookie. He was flying to a robber in progress call. In the curve his car was at maximum cohesiveness. His car dropped from overdrive to drive as he let off the accelerator in the curve; just enough jerk when it downshifted to break the wheels free form the road. high speed. DONT USE OVERDRIVE

I found in your taking a turn there is an optimal speed that you really just got to practice. Then fine tune. Usually if youre going fast you have to break slow down and then hit it at the speed your car is able to take it out without any acceleration and then start applying a little bit of gas to keep the acceleration to keep the speed youre going but if you start to accelerate you can start to drift unless you are okay with that because you have enough road Im which case you can just floor it really once you kinda come out depending on how well your car can handle how far your flooring it

Also, have a feel for, and know your tires. If you have a cheap Chinese brand of tyres (even if its just one wheel) the car will behave differently at speed and at turns. The front will understeer and the back will be more likely to spin out, even with full thread, as the compound in these cheap tyres dont grip the road well. Driving fast with a cheap tyre brand vs a good make like Continental, can be the difference between safely making it round that sharp bend and ending up in the bush upside down.

There was this one time when me and a friend of mine were in my car and we were late, so I was driving faster than usual in heavy traffic. He is a loudmouth and he got really butthurt because I would always ask him to repeat what he said at every traffic light. My answer to that was Would you rather have your head sticking out the windshield or repeat what you said when Im actually able to pay attention to you? Yes, he was the douche that never wore a seatbelt.

This is bad advice for public roads. You should never be pushing limits where external factors cant be controlled. Take it to the track. There are safety margins built into tracks so if you mess up (you will) while learning, you dont hurt (or kill) an innocent bystander. Sure, everyone goes faster than the speed limit from time to time, but lets be honest, what Scotty is suggesting goes well beyond speeding to keep pace with the flow of traffic.

the only thing I dont agree with is music because that thing is subjective or depends on the person if I ride without music I will ride much slower and become more nervous because all I hear is my heavy breathing high air sounds with the engine but the music kinda makes you focus and waters down annoying sounds. because actually all professional drivers and riders have ear plugs on as you mostly use your vision not sound to drive and know location

I coast all the time and have been doing so for more than 3 decades because: 1. It doesnt wear out my powertrain 2. I save gas in not having engine stopping to drag down my coasting momentum 3. It locks up my wheels less on icy/snowy road. 3. It forces me to pause a bit and look both ways after stopping at an intersection. That said, I dont advise anyone else to do because coasting is really not for everyone, like what Scotty said.

Good advice, i drove the crap out of my honda crv, but only on streets that i knew. New streets are the only time i ever hit potholes, new apartments are the only time i hit curbs. Now i have a honda sport hatch, and Ive blown 1 tire out from a pothole in 20k miles. It was a new pothole from rain. that means streets you drove on yesterday may have larger holes today than the day before

Your comment about rolling in neutral, you are saying it like engine braking is good. But it puts a lot of wear on your valves because there is resisting force. Its worse for old cars but not as bad for newer cars. Dont coast in an auto since those have torque converters and are disengaged when off the throttle. But if your car is manual, try to reduce how often you engine brake.
