In 2015, the infamous 13 year rule came into force in Japan.
So if people want to own a car that's over 13 years old,
They have to pay an extra tax.
Therefore, Not a few great cars that was built during the so-called bubble era (the heyday of Japanese cars) were scrapped.
God was very concerned about that and created the wonderful 25 year rule in America in 2018.
And because of that, once the best Japanese cars was able to keep showing.

The s13, s14, and s15 were all sold, but NOT as silvias. they were 200sx and 240sx. The 180 was sold in Canada and some people have brought them over. We've never had the sileighty sadly either. The silvia had better suspension, brakes, exhaust, and other options that weren't released to america. None the less, America got basically the same car, just needs a few upgrades. Originally we weren't going to get the car at all, so we're lucky they changed their minds.

That's around say 5-6 grand for the car then a further 5-6 grand before they could even drive it and thats before the mods they did, so these guys went to japan to buy a car that would have cost roughly the same amount over here. You can pick up second hand S15's for around 10-12 grand saving you the added cost of a return plane ticket to japan. And isn't that 180sx the same 180 used in the build a drift car special?

It has become ridiculous to import any car these days. An ep3 civic will set you back around 25k fully complied in Aus and its, not like a clean example with logbooks, just a mediocre example. You can pick up an NSW for close to 200k complied, how ridiculous is that? and don't even get me started on the GTRS

Ha, I don't know how much trouble you get in for loud exhausts where you guys are, but I've run my pickup with straight through exhaust and never got in trouble

Downside to living in the states. if you ship a car here from Japan or anywhere else for that matter. the steering wheel is gonna be on the opposite side. or as my dad calls it. the wrong side. Maybe I'll do it anyway.

Damn! We are looking a almost 8000 bucks ( not including the price of the car) just to import a car to Australia witch is close to Japan I wonder how much more would it be to import one to the U. S.
