How to fix a fan that doesn't work on low. If your interior AC/ Heat fan is not working on low, or one of the fan settings isnt working, then you probably need to replace the blower motor resistor. This video will go though all of the steps and give you some helpful tips and tricks! I also show the blower motor resistor wiring diagram in case you need to put a new pigtail on the resistor (like I did because it melted. Inexpensive blower motor resistors

I had to do all my own research to figure out how to do this. I should have watched this first BUT I have some questions. I pulled the blower resistor and looked at it, it looked rusty, but with my multi meter, it appears as if everything is fine, and it is working. Why would it still be the cause. I check the springs resistance on one side, and then tested the connections on the other side (I put one lead of my multi meter on the red wire, and tested it against each other connection and got some resistance, so I know these are inter-connected and the connection isn't) bad, so why would it still not work? would it be the rust I saw on the spring side? on the spring side, the one piece that doesn't look like a spring, has corrosion where on yours in the video is nice and clean black. there was still continuity on my multi meter between each side of this piece. I presume there could be a issue between the two sides of the blower resistors. Is it worth buying another resistor and replacing it? Or should I look for another cause? (By the way, thanks to you, I have restored headlights. It was terrifying to drive, but now I can actually see the road at night when other cars pass by me. My lights WORK. I will be aligning them soon)

Chris, I always use your videos when I have a problem with a vehicle and have been successful until I replaced the resistor and pigtail on my '03 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Once everything was completed, I tested my work but nothing changed. The fan would only blow in the high (#4) position. What else could it be?
BTW, you're the best and my go to when I have an issue!

you're so good at explaining, and it also helped my car has this same setup. a lot of people aren't good at teaching things like this, they skip over important details and issues you might run into in the process, for someone who doesn't know it can be so difficult yet, you always do such a good job explaining everything slowly. so thanks!

Hey! I dont think that Ill probably get a response but why not try. I have the problem where the only a/c setting that works is the highest. My first thought was to replace the resistor on my 2008 Volkswagen Passat but when I did, nothing changed even after checking that I installed it correctly. Any idea what else could be causing this?

When chrisfix said I dont know why they cant just design something better about Ford and Mazda. That hit lol. They make some really easy tasks really difficult. Ford more so (just personal experience. But removing a fuel filter or MAF sensor or even trying to remove anything from FORD is SO HARD

Thank you so much brother. Ill be working on my truck this weekend, Dan blower will be replaced as well as the resistor because it will not work on the lower settings. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge, I just find your page and you are my go to Guy to for repairs on my 2008 Ford Ranger.

Your heater video popped up on my suggestions. I figured my blower motor doesn't work and my parents blower motor resistor (I had no idea what that was until I watched your other video) was shot so I watched it and it lead me here.
Your videos are great! Thank you for making them!

Couple things: Really should make a drawing of colors to the connector before cutting anything. The colors might not be the same especially on a different model or maker. Second, those crimp connectors are also heat-shrink, it's good to shrink them down before taping.

My blower stopped working altogether, when I replaced the resistor it would only work on high so I returned it and put another one in and the sMe thing happened so I put the old one back in. Why would a new resistor only work on high?

Hey Chrisfix I always come to your videos for tutorials. Ive done brakes, complete suspension, etc on a 98 Ranger and now this resistor on a 00 Explorer. Using all that knowledge working on the same stuff for the Explorer too. Thanks!
