We ve got the legendary Bugatti EB110, and it s about to go head-to-head against the classic Ferrari F40! So let s see how these two legends compare. Starting with the Bugatti, it was originally released in 1994, and it s powered by a 3. 5-litre quad-turbo V12 that can produce 560hp and 610Nm of torque. This power is sent to all four wheels via a 6-speed manual gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1, 690kg. When it was first released it cost 285, 000, but if you re looking to pick one up now you can expect to spend a cool 1, 500, 000! The we have the Ferrari F40. It was first released in 1991, and it s powered by a 2. 9-litre twin-turbo V8 that can put down 480hp and 580Nm. All of this power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 5-speed manual, but it s oh-so light, weighing in at just 1, 350kg! It was originally cheaper than the Bugatti, at 163, 000, but if you re looking to buy one today it ll set you back at least 2, 000, 000! So the Ferrari is down on power, and it s only rear-wheel drive, so could the weight difference prove decisive? There s only one way to find out LET S RACE!

To be honest I didn't expect the Viper to be this close to F40. I thought the F40 being made from carbon fiber, so a lot lighter and more power from a small turbocharged engine will be an easy winner here. But the Viper seems to be a vintage performance bargain to be honest for the fraction of a price of an F40 you can get a lot of fun.

Thank you for the video, but it s not representative at all except Mat driving the viper. That F40 can do a lot better if driven hard and not nannying its clutch and using more its higher rpm for launches and shifts in order not to be in a turbo lag. Just find owners cars next time, not museum things

This is awesome! What an insane two cars are racing together, and Mat if theres any chances, I would like to see an drag race with the, Lamborghini Huracan Tecnica VS Porsche 911 Turbo S, and I be absolutely be happy if you well do it, but this was an insane most rare and awesome drag race.

Such massive short shifting and all that misfiring in an F40 hurts. Really should've sorted it before pushing the old girl on a track. or at least attempted the italian tune up!
Props for setting this up, be great for a rematch with healthy cars!

That was rubbish, maybe it was bad editing for the internal shots and sound, but that F40 never got on boost, the random american guy was short shifting. Need to ask someone to lend you an F40 who isn't afraid to let you guys use it properly.

Pity about the Bugatti, the eb 110 ss had almost the same power as the Mclaren F1 and was faster. Top speed was 355 km/h which was faster than the F1 as there were limited to around 340 km/h.
Was that Matt s best launch ever in the Viper!

The F40 is an icon, despite the fact that you have to change the fuel tanks every 7-8 years or so for 70k. It makes much more sense to have a 458 Italia which gives you the same goose bumbs for those who prefer not living in a time capsule.
reply

That was kind of disappointing to be honest. The guy in the Ferrari clearly can't launch and kept shortshifting. Very frustrating to watch! That F40 had a lot more to give, mind you it did sound like it was misfiring as well

More of these would be great Matt. Would also be great to see something like the f40 against a modern family sports car like an m3 or rs3. Just to see how time and technology moves things on.

Absolutely no way a stock gen 1 Viper runs a 12. 2 on stock tires. A 13. 2 I would believe or if it was a 2nd gen a 12. 2 would be feasible. Either way cool video and very fun to watch and hear.

Matt i love your videos but why the F40 driver is revving it only to 5k? There is 3k revs more before redline. I know that americans and manual geaboxes dont go well together but come on.
reply

Why does that look like the same tracks that Hoonigan's use on their drag races? And yes, the Peterson Automotive The museum is awesome. Can't wait to visit it one day in Los Angeles!
reply

So cool to see the EB110 vs my all time favorite car, the F40! But the Ferrari does not sound healthy and it also sounds like he's not reving it high enough? But what a video!
reply

they really treated the old ladies from europe soft, particular at the start. Min 1 sec better is possible for both i think. But great to see those legends driving anyways
reply

Dude, posters of these above my bed! I had completely forgotten that the F40 was twin turbo. Man, that quad-turbo 12 cylinder sucked! That viper was awesome off the line.

As per science a tree needs carbon dioxide to breathe and gives oxygen. What are the electric cars doing they will be killing the trees and life on earth
reply

I didn t have any pictures those cars because I wasn t around in the 90s, 2003 I was born, those cars are a good investment but I d be careful driving them
reply

Vipers are just so cool. 12. 2 quarter is fast! Still a performance bargain today. I ll take a 90s viper for 50k over a new sports car for similar price.
reply

You can tell who is looking after their car because they are the one who has to pay to fix it if something breaks vs someone who treats it like a rental

Glad I went out tonight if not I would not be awake at 5am watching this master piece while I have work in a few hours and uni hw after
