Get 20% off Car Vertical using code Carwow: We’ve got our hands on the all-new BMW M2, and it’s about to go up against its closest rivals! Alongside it, we have the Golf R, AMG A45 S, RS3 and Cayman GT4 RS! But which will cross the line first Let’s check out the stats. Starting with the BMW, it’s powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo straight six, and this produces 480hp and 600Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels only via an 8-speed torque converter gearbox, and it’s the heaviest car here at 1, 730kg. It costs around 69, 000. Next up is the Golf R. It’s packing a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo, and it puts down 333hp and 420Nm. It has all-wheel drive and a 7-speed dual clutch, and it tips the scales at 1, 548kg. As new, it costs 46, 000. Next is the AMG A45 S. It has the same size engine as the Golf R, and it creates 421hp and 500Nm. It has an 8-speed automatic gearbox as well as all-wheel drive, and it weighs 1, 680kg. You can pick one up new for around 65, 000. The fourth car is the Audi RS3 Saloon. With a 2. 5-litre 5-cylinder turbo under the bonnet, it creates 400hp and 500Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed auto, and it weighs 1, 640kg. A brand new one costs around 62, 500. Then, finally, we have the Cayman GT4 RS. It’s packing a 4-litre NA flat-six, and it creates 500hp and 450Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels only via a 7-speed auto gearbox, and it’s the lightest car here, at 1, 415kg. It comes with a hefty price tag, though, costing around 125, 500! So will the Porsche walk it Or could the all-new M2 snatch the win There’s only one way to find out LET’S RACE! As a RS3 owner, I can proudly say that the car is absolute shite when in D. Whether you're in comfort or individual or dynamic, if you have the car set to D, it feels weak, laggy, struggling, shifts at like 800 RPMs, you're already in 6th gear at 30 mph. I get that it's supposed to be a more relaxed setting, but there's relaxed, and then there's borderline comatose. The car cannot be driven in anything but S mode. And then she shines

Bmw M2 G87 is advertised as 453hp at the Crank, but Real Dyno Numbers at the Wheel are between 477hp to 492hp which means the G87 is producing 520hp to 550hp at the Crank. Bmw always under estimate their Power Figures by 70 to 100hp

I’m still wondering why you guys have the RS3 at 12. 2 secs, that’s slower than the previous 8y(11. 8-9) and claimed 8. 5ytimes(same 11. 89. But I pick mine up next Saturday so after a lil break in, I’ll test myself

As an RS3 owner, I can tell you that 50mph in 3rd is completely out of the power band for that car. 40mph roll in 2nd would have left the Merc in the dust. It's the worst speed for a roll race in an RS3, even tuned.

Cayman Base or S with a turbo 4 No
Caymen GTS Turbo No
Caymen GTS 4. 0 No
Caymen GT4 No
Caymen GT4 RS Yeahhhhhhhhh
It would be more interesting if they used a M340i and GTS 4. 0 or Turbo

It will be a great if you guys add a section on the carwow site with a graph of all 1/4 mile times of the cars that you are testing - Same like the fast laps that Christian Menzel is doing on fast lap.

The amg done very well I though been it was low on power against the m2 on the drag race but have the same power amg with the m2 then it could be a different story so well done amg

13: 40 DOWNSHIFTING DOES NOT MATTER
Why do you think this TIRES stop a car NOT BRAKES - brakes turn energy into HEAT, that's ALL. TIRES STOP THE CAR. SHIFTING DOES NOT MATTER.

I would love to see just a stage 1 tune, stock hardware race between these cars. The GT4RS would likely get last or second to last. If E85 was allowed, the RS3 likely would win.
reply

They should’ve re-done the roll race with the GT4 RS being in its optimal power band to see if it can beat the M2, having only one in full sport mode was a farce.

we really need a 1. 0 litre turbo race, such as fiesta ecoboost, vw 1. 0tsi etc i think that would be so interesting to see what such ordinary road cars will do

Golf R mk8 did 1/4 mile in 12. 3 seconds back in 2021. There is a carwow video vs. Typer R. Now this facelift does 12. 9s. Something is wrong here

I hoenstly wish Car wow did more Lexuses. I know they're more luxury than sport but I'd love to see how they stack up, especially the F Sports.

Video idea: How about doing a drag race between different classes to see how big the gaps are (example: m2 vs c63 vs turbo s vs chiron)
reply

I was about to say golf r doesn’t belong as it’s a competitor to the s3 not rs3 and then the rolling race happened. very confused

Audi had a heavy jump in the first race and jumped again in the 3rd. Quattro is good but not 5 car-lengths on other awd cars good.
reply

The Cayman being in this group is kinda embarrassing. These cars are almost half the price. The difference on track would be crazy though

Audi Porsche Benz BMW VW is the AudiMan order. That Porsche is really something. Hope they get their mojo back soon as a brand of power.
reply

A used G8x M2 where I live is still about $64k. A few parts later plus install cost and you’ve spent $4500 and the car has 704hp
reply

Golf R is at least 20k less than the next cheapest car there not even remotely the same class. I’d say it did pretty damn well
