So many of these comments are totally clueless and nothing more than negative projection from individuals who are, quite bluntly, not quite the demographic RR targets either new or used.
Firstly 92% of phantoms of this era are totally bespoke interior / options wise. Secondly they were mostly driven by professional drivers given the owners were sat in the rear seats.
That means they’ve been very well maintained and had very few extreme engine activities either breaking or accelerating and that engine is naturally aspirated and bombproof.
Many of the parts you can get from BMW interchangeable with the seven series. And that Car is an incredible buy given They are mostly very low mileage. get an aftermarket warranty maintain it properly with a specialist and you will have no problems as for whingeing about petrol or Insurance please if you’re gonna notice those you won’t be able to afford the vehicle. the difference with RE to say a Bentley is when you own a Bentley you tend to drive it hard. Bentley can be a very serious and expensive ownership experience. lol rear air suspension on the GTC Speed when they go, they go in pairs 18 K later. l but that’s the price of high-end motors if you can’t afford that don’t even think of it
as for the Skoda never been in one, never would be in one, never would be seen dead in one as such have no interest. someone signing a lease with 50 K with that silly car in is the reason why the countries in the mess it’s in. When you buy a used RR you buy cash and you take the depreciation against your accounts that’s the difference. End of lecture.

Of course, tastes differ but let’s be honest, the 2003 Phantom is clearly the ugliest model of the entire series. Possibly even the ugliest Rolls-Royce ever made. I'm talking about the exterior here (the interior is fine. Well fine if you ignore the fact that it’s not classic, just plain outdated.
I don’t mean to be rude, but if you don’t have the money for a Rolls-Royce and by that I mean a net worth of at least 2 million, then you really shouldn’t buy one. The maintenance costs alone will drain your wallet. Realistically, you’re looking at around 10, 000 per year, even if nothing major goes wrong. Don’t be surprised if it breaks down after just 10, 000 km, unless you’re ready to drop another 20, 000 just to get it running again. To say it's the best value for money is a great joke but not a reality. Rolls Royce isn't meant to be value for money; you will never get 'bang for your buck' when buying a Rolls-Royce.

I see everyone's praising Skodas. and well, I can understand how to goes up against premium vehicles in a way. but in reallity it will never be a premium. Terrible resale value, only offers 4 cylinder diesels (lets be real, it's not like you're going to buy a petrol engine and make 40000 km a year, won't even mention petrol engines. While there's some fancy in it, nowadays it's a standard in a car. it's about all the little details. If we're going to be realistic. bmw offers electric seats as standard since e60. standard halogen bulbs on a 2018 skoda. what's all that about I'm not saying it's a bad car, but if you're comparing Superb vs 5 series or E class. you need to compare top end superb model with a base model 5 series or E class. that's the difference between budget brand and a premium.

Old luxury car is a financial catastrophe, a trap many people falls. If something depreciates steeply, usually there is a very good reason for that. People who can afford to run that thing buys them new, people who cant afford it new think it is a great bargain to pay 50k for a 300k car. Here's the trick, running costs are still worth a 300k car. Best approach is buying approved used 2-3 years old where the first owner has swallow the initial depreciation. Even then you could end up with high repair costs but at least chances are relatively low.

Oh, it is wood! Ive been to a customer factory (can't say the name because of nda) where they cut this parts for the best brands. They can be wood or carbon fiber, very very thin layers, a little wrong handling and they crack, they are literally like 0. 1 mm thick. And then they cut them to size, thermal mold them to shape and then mold them into the final piece with resin (plastic. Its actually an extremely complex process, very delicate and time consuming, thus the luxury and price.

As someone who owns super 2010 170 2. 0, a superb 2018, a mercedes s class 2011 and a mercedes e class 2004 (whith all possible features like keyless go) you kind sir are comparing a proper car to a tin can. The skodas are super functional cars cheaper made with very good fuel economy. On my 2010 i got already 500. 000 km, but the mercedes s class is on another level, that rolls royce is better even than the s class but the price is too much. I paide my s class 25000euro,

People guessing the Skoda to be thirtish, or fourty thousand are right. It just tells us what the soceity think is fair for these vehicles and what should be their price ranges really. There is no reason why an average family sedan or estate, whether mercedes or BMW or Skodas= or Volvo, should cost more than 40K. It is insanity to be setitng those tihngs for 70 grand and above at times!

Great review and made me laugh out loud in parts! Quinton Wilson was reviewing luxury cars 25 years ago and always suggesting that luxury cars were bargains as long as you bought the right one. I ended buying a 730 BMW and also a 827 Rover many years ago, great cars didn't have a problem with either. Quinton also recommended Rolls Royce cars as well as bargains.

The thing with Rolls is, people assume someone is driven in the back, and poor driver is not to be blamed for road issues. It is probably that fat obnoxious rich idiot in the back that is giving him a stress, so let him be. We don't need to give him more problems in life. That is why people are more tolerant.

Chose a superb as a company car in 2010 and got mocked to hell by all the other reps because they chose passats and mondeos, some even contributed heavily from their wages to upgrade to an entry level 3 series. But by the time my renewal came around and i got my second superb, I'd set a trend.

Agree, it’s a lot of micro vibrations on a brand new Skoda from the diesel engine, was shocked when rent a new diesel superb just with 6000km mileage on a dashboard
And u constantly feeling it when staying with the engine turned on. it gives very cheap feeling for the whole car.

The one obvious question is: Does the Rolls Royce work, or does it need lots of maintenance, adding another $20, 000 to its price The new Skoda works and has full warranty. But still, I would want the Rolls Royce, and I just deal with any problems: ) Never mind the fuel economy.

Once upon a time Rolls-Royces used to be owned by gentle, sensitive and sensible people with class and taste. These days it's some Muppet Yob, in a T shirt driving around asking complete strangers how much they think you paid for the car. My how times have changed.

So many missing the point here.
Sure the Skoda will be a good car, but in 20 yrs it'll scrap.
The Rolls will be going to the Restores for a respray.
It's also a good way to get in to Chauffeuring Weddings etc. 2yrs of weddings and it'll be paid off.

But what milage does the Phantom have on the clock I always mis that informatie in these car shows. Great that you bought the car cheap, but if the milage is huge the car will nog last very long anymore. Should always be mentioned in my opinion.

What if I bought a 50k RR and used it for VIP Uber and airport service. The big problem however is that the car might cost only a 10th of its MSRP now, but the maintenance is still full price and even more due to its age now

How much is 4. 9 meters in inches Ok, looks like 192 inches. Not bad. But nowhere near enough for GBP50k. My Cadillac CTS 3. 6 V6 is 196, and that is just mid-sized, barely enough. Rolls Royce for the win in that category.

What you didn't point out is the Rolls is fitted with full winter tyres. If you repeated the emergency stop test with standard summer tyres, same as the Skoda, the Rolls would have pulled up circa 10-20% sooner.

Insurance, repair costs, maintenance fees, tires These will all make make the RR insanely more expensive. Factory guarantee also not present for the RR. Despite its price it is still a luxury car. Its just old.
