Change your car with Carwow: This is the updated Skoda Octavia vRS! Skoda’s famous hot hatch has received a facelift for 2025. The question is, how much has changed compared to the previous edition And is it a better choice than competitors like the Golf R & Civic Type R Let’s find out. Starting with the design, there are a few key elements that separate it from the regular Octavia. Up top there’s a more aggressive front bumper and bigger air intakes, and along the side there are unique alloy designs as well as black surrounds for the windows. At the back there’s another aggressive-style rear bumper, a boot lip spoiler, and a set of twin exhausts. On the inside, there are once again a couple of design elements to separate it from the regular car. There’s a sports steering wheel, racing red digital dials, and lots of red stitching throughout. Those in the front are also treated to sports seats, and while they’re comfortable, the material feels a little cheap. The back row is pretty much identical to the regular Octavia. Under the bonnet is a 2-litre turbocharged 4 cylinder that delivers 265hp and 370Nm. That’s 20hp more than the previous edition, and power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch. It has a claimed 0-60mph time of 6. 4 seconds. The Octavia vRS costs around 39, 3000, but is it worth it Or should you spend that money on one of its key competitors Stick with Mat to see for yourself! I'm a bit biased cause I love Skoda and VAG cars anyways. Currently have a Skoda Rapid coming up on 350k kilometers and not a bother on her.
But honestly how can people justify spending the same money on a shitty awkward heavy pointless crossover thing with no room or practicality and not get this
I know most manufacturers have moved away from Saloons but I think Skoda and the VAG are bang on the money with keeping the Saloon going.
The only other car I can say which would be even better than this would be the Estate version and I'd add in the estate version of the Seat Leon FR too which is a beautiful looking car too. And a very cheap safe map done in a garage and you're getting 300bhp easily

I drove MK8 GTI and just switched over to a S3 about a month ago. This looks like a cheaper mix of both. The exterior looks like the S3, the seats are similar but mine are full nappa leather, the infotainment is completely Golf GTI MK8. 2. Even the power is right between them. My GTI had 245hp, the S3 333hp. It's a nice car considering how much cheaper it is than my 75k S3 (with options.
Edit: The window wiper is the same with the S3 and yes, I forgot to spec it too. I was really confused on how to turn it on when it rained for the first time. After parking I realized that I don't even have a rear window wiper.

Ok if that's a hatchback, then clearly there is no such thing as a sedan. In no universe is this a hatchback.
A sedan is defined as a 4-door passenger car with a trunk that is separate from the passengers with a three-box body: the engine, the area for passengers, and the trunk. Throughout the generations, the definition of a sedan has been the same.
Given you are a soap dodger, then you'd at least call it a saloon.

I went from the last Octavia VRS to a MK8 Golf R, and although the Golf is fun, and very quick, that against the practicality of the Skoda wasn't worth it, especially when you've been used to all the room and extras the VRS came with standard. I was actually surprised that the Golf didn't have some of the VRS features as standard.
I'm currently looking at this facelift to go back to a VRS.

I do like it however I much prefer the old wheel design. I even like the colour. When you tested the acceleration on the previous model the auto gear change was agricultural, this seems far better. The twin light model 2 generations ago is what I'd choose & I bet their prices are great for a low mileage used version. And finally I would go for the estate in the matt grey. Beautiful.

Actually you don't have to go that deep into menus to adjust ESC (ESC sport or deactivate. ESC settings can be easily accessed through the SET button on the centre console (next to the drive mode button. I really wouldn't count that as annoying an annoying thing.
Also I do own a facelifted vRS myself and I don't really miss the rear wiper.

What It is not an EV I am always surprised when new car review is a combustion vehicle. Took me 6 minutes into the video to realize this time. My brain has been doing this since about 2019. Gas cars have seemed as unlikely to see a review for as for a CRT TV since then.

This is NOT a hothatch! It is a sedan! Even though you can open the rear end with the window together. .
OHhhhhhh - by the way - it is NOT a VRS - it is an RS! There is NO V in the Skoda models! Just a visual logo! Please check their website! Don't be an Amateur!

Each sporty-oriented car that auto upshifts in manual mode is an automatic NO for me. Why won't they understand that the target audience for this type of vehicle doesn't like this If I want the car to shift for me I'll just leave it in auto mode.

Us Belgians keep things very simple. We call that a berline (sedan) since it looks like one. Even with the boot open, you won't change our minds. Also, it's RS pretty much anywhere else but the UK, thanks to copyright reasons with Ford ages ago.

I think Skoda's are the new Volkswagen's. Folk cars. Cool, cheaper, nice options. I think the VW group should get back to it's roots or wait for China to throw it all in the bin together with it's roots.

yeah maybe for a young family with little children not so much for a family with teenagers or people who get claustrophobic in the backseat of a hatchback as an adult but don't in a Sedan truck/SUV

Man, skoda are actually thinking about what people want, handy every day things like umbrella (rolls Royce) ice scraper, good door bins. Why don’t other manufacturers consider these things

The 2. 0L turbo with 265hp and 370Nm is definitely a solid upgrade but that 060 in 6. 4s shows it's still playing it safe in the family hatch arena. Great for school runs with attitude though!

Maybe it's because I just watched Jay Emm trash VW in his e-Tron review, but isn't it a problem that the interior is indistinguishable from a Porsche A Porsche should not be a parts bin car.

Nice Job Skoda - Great car, that ticks all boxes - Couldn't live with that acid-green colour though, unless i was a 20yr girl (but what girl can afford the insurance on a VRS at 20)

Honestly i think this is how all sedans should be. The tail opening up like this. It really helps with practicality. Thats why i enjoy the GT BMWs

having owned & driven Mazda, BMW and Renault I can confirm VW’s adaptive cruise control is absolutely rubbish. got rid of my new Tiguan after 18 months

you need to check out the gac empow r. in my opinion puts this and the gti to shame on price and performance. plus way better looking and luxurious

There is a clear distinction between a hatchback and a liftback. This is a liftback, which has a sedan-style body with a hatchback-style tailgate
