I have a concern that I'll never walk again. I'm crying just typing this. I shattered my tibia and fibula in January. There was no bone growth around the screws & plates. I went back later still no healing of the bone. Got sick and ended up in the hospital for 13 days. I was released to a different physical rehabilitation facility until my 100 days of medicare. I then spent over two months in an assisted living facility that wiped out my savings. The house needs a roof, it needs major plumbing work. The appliances are dying. My screen enclosures is rotting away. I had barely enough funding for one. After 60+ days in assisted living I was able to get back into another physical rehab facility. I've been here another 60 days and was barely standing for a couple seconds at a time when medicare gave up on me. I've been moved into long term storage waiting on another insurance to pick me up. I'll probably lose the house and my car. I don't think I'll ever walk again. I don't know what I'll do.

2009, old and rusted out? Wow, I live in Oregon and though we get our fair share of rain, living in the Portland area there's not much snow or ice, so very little salt. I have a 2000 Accord that has no rust what so ever (maybe some tiny surface rust) I have never had to worry about removing anything on my car. It does help that before I got the car in 2014 it had spent its earlier days in Arizona. If you are a successful mechanic in the rust belt, you are among the elite of the industry. Eric, you amaze me on how successful you are at any job that comes your way.

9: 36 All the engineers come out:
While working at an RV dealership, we had a customer who came in for service and we found out later that he was an engineer.
Not only did he list 44 items defective on his new Coleman pop up camper but went on for four pages what was structurally, electrically, mechanically, and design flawed about the camper and the whole idea of camping.
We never could figure out why he bought the camper in the first place.

Ha, I used to swear by WD-40 before it went cfc free. I swear the new formula is water based. It doesn't even catch fire like it used to.
I needed to lube a hunting tool for a temp storage. The hunting tool surface rusted worse than it would have without wd-40. I won't argue with you about whether it is for water displacement or a lubricator. Working with as much rust as you do, you need all the faith you can get to remove some of the parts you come across.

I have lived in Florida all of my life and the sight of all of that rust is disgusting. I have a '99 Sierra with 175, 000 miles an -0- rust. I wonder how many billions of dollars of vehicles have to be crushed before the end of their otherwise useful life because of salted roads? It would seem to me (as someone who has never driven in the snow! ) that using sand or studded tires would eliminate this rust problem. OK, I have my flame suit on. Fire away!

Just did this job 2 days ago on my 01 F250. Wish I would have known about the stem cap trick then. I had a vacuum running when I used my carbide scraper and it appeared everything was clean. I was wrong. Ran the truck afterwards and speed sensor was still not working. When I pulled it apart again there was a tiny piece of rust that the magnetic end of the sensor picked up. Cleaned it off, put it together and all is good.

Well then I feel pretty lucky I had a 2000 Chevy truck really in good shape 4. 9. I think the small V8. Other than having a or having to replace a rear driver cab mount and the ground strap and some small other things it was a good truck. I sold it this spring for 3, 800 bucks I paid 2500 for it and had it 6 years. I feel it's important to do good maintenance and the nip things in the bud as they say; -)

Actually, that principle where the velocity of the air flow creating a low-pressure area to pull that valve cap out of the hole is known as the Bernoulli Effect, the same principle that allows airplanes to get off the ground by making the air flow faster on the top of the wing than on the bottom. I learned about that back in engineering school before I started working on thyroid nodules. All the best, -Ed

Had a guy tell me today about going to buy a 2018 GMC 2500 AT4 with less than 30, 000 miles on it at a GMC dealership in Northern Alabama. He said when he looked underneath it was already rusted and starting to rot. Turned out it came from Michigan. Still under factory warranty and already going with corrosion. I don't know how you guys do it but my hat's off to you for working in those conditions.

Nice tricks Eric! I love the valve stem one & the venturi removal. You need to write a book on all you tricks/hacks. I love it. I live in the south so really cringe when I see the underneath on the trucks & cars you have to work on. Guess you need to keep your tetanus shots up to date. Greeting from that Old Jarhead in WNC. Semper Fi on Vets day. Vietnam '68-'70. Made it back home

I tried removing mine but on the 94 Voyager and managed to get the fastener off but the sensor wouldn t budge. On mine the plastic extends about 3/8 out from the knuckle and it looks like it has expanded preventing removal. In the end I was able to get my bad hub off with it still on.
( Just glanced in the mirror to watch my mouth )

a magnetic induction bolt buster is fairly expensive, 350 or so but it heats the stubborn part red hot in under a minute with out heating the surrounding material. might be worth it if you deal with rusty stuck stuff a lot. loosens hot water tank anodes. which i suspect they red locktite in to force you to buy a new tank.
