So much stuff starts off mundane. Had an inoperative tail light on my car and replaced the lamp. Thought I was good and it went out again. Then I realized it seemed to come and go. I'd see it on sometimes when I unlocked the car with the key fob. Realized later that unlocking only illuminated the taillight if the dash sensor was in the headlights on state (low light outdoors! If the dash sensor was in the headlights off state (bright out, the brake light would come on if I unlocked it with the key fob. Dang it! So yesterday, I manually turned on the headlights and unlocked it - no taillight. Pulled the socket out and found there was a short pigtail with connectors matching the one on the socket and the wire coming in - I think this was added to allow for trailer lights - and one of the pins in the socket was not fully seated - I noticed the one weatherpak seal wasn't as far down in the connector as the others. Pushed that one in and click! Problem solved. I think I threw away 2 good lamps.

I had an oil leak on my 2000 Toyota Sienna, right around the filter. It was just a tiny leak and it happened right after I had changed the oil and filter. I had ordered the genuine Toyota filter on Amazon, and had used the same filter I bought the last time I changed the oil/filter, or so I thought. I had simply gone to the Amazon history page, clicked buy again, the part showed up and I changed the oil and installed the filter. What was the problem you ask? Turns out we have 2 Toyotas in the garage, a 2000 Sienna and a 2005 Matrix. When I re-ordered the Toyota filter from my Amazon history, I mistakenly ordered the filter that I had ordered when I changed the oil/filter on the 2005 Matrix. They look exactly alike, but the Matrix filter is just a tad smaller than the Sienna filter and so it leaked just slightly around the seal. Lesson learned, I think.

My brother bought an old police car at the county auction over the weekend, site unseen for a nickel. We went to pick it up, the Drivers side window was out of it and taped up. Hooked a jump box up to it and it was deader than dead. Nothing showed up on the cluster except theft light. No com on the scan tool. After checking some basic stuff, I checked power at the ignition switch. NO power. Checked ignition switch fuse and it was missing. New fuse and a jump start and it started right up. They also had the shifter disconnected under the column to get it out of park. Oh, and the window rolled right up and had no issues.

Mr O, I saw your fluid film video which was awesome as last month my 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan didn't pass NY inspection because it was rotted out underneath.
I just bought a 2012 Subaru Forrester which has some rust in odd places like the door hinge. I bought a six pack of Fluid Film (because of your video) and plan to do the topside this weekend. For the underneath I'm thinking of driving the 4 hours from Upstate NY to have you do it.
As this car has a three month warranty I'd like for you to give it overall warranty check because you're the No Nonsense guy.

Eric, the mundane jobs pay the bills, the big ticket jobs give you the extra income. It was the same with our family appliance repair business. Made a living for my father for 30 years and then myself for 31 years before I retried and closed it. BUT- you'll remember the odd, more interesting jobs more than the 200 odd run of the mill ones! Keep the videos coming!

I like these videos. I'm an avid diy mechanic but there's a lot of people that would watch this and be like damn, i can do that. plus you're just fun to watch anyway. You're a natural on the camera and you're entertaining, so yeah, give some oil change videos, rotating the tires videos, etc, etc. People watch the vids for you Eric, the car stuff is just a bonus.

It always makes me wonder what are OEM brand bulbs, my friends toyota RAV 4 is over ten years old and has never blown a bulb. Might also depend on how high the alternator voltage sits at 14 plus volts isn't good on bulbs rated at 12 to 13 volts. Anyway would happily pay twice the price for high quality OEM spec bulbs rated for 14 volts continuous.

I noticed in Mr. O's outro segment, there is a stand-by surgical mask stored around the oh t grab handle over the left rear door. I sometimes see them on rearview mirrors, but this was a new one for me. I'm wondering if pretty soon, we will see some cars that the used car dealers bought at the auction, that are damaged Florida cars.

Hey Eric I need help with diagnosis on a 02 f150 for an O2 sensor with no voltage? Bank 1 sensor 2 I'm in the process of replacing the transmission and my diagnostic skill in the wiring realm are still beginner level I figured I'd check the harness as I'm dropping the transmission. Is there any other ideas for diagnosing it?

Let me guess that bulb replacement was 300 LOL. Local shop tried charging me 159 for a 15 fuel filter, I guess maybe they didn't think I'd catch their nonsense. 25 a piece for 6 spark plugs, yeah, the most expensive spark plug you can get for this particular vehicle is like 8. Wish there was a shop like yours in my town.

Interesting. My wife has a 2011 Forester and the oil filter is right beside the oil filler. Same 2. 5, I thought. I love it because it doesn't have to be lifted to change the oil since you can reach the drain without getting underneath and the filter is on top. I wonder why it is different. Nice to see you back.

There is nothing wrong with a good basic video. While I do appreciate video chasing a bad control voltage or a mysterious electrical issue, I can really relate to this. Immediately I thought that the seal from the previous filter had stayed in the engine like you apparently did. Great video!

I had problems with tail lights on an International Pro Star, every 2 weeks I had to replace the light bulbs. I finally bought some 3157 led lights, plugs into the socket and lasted for several months instead of 2 weeks. Didn't make any difference which make of lights 2 weeks max.

Not mundane at all, Mr. O! Had the same issue on an '02 Subaru WRX taillight and found that the little tit at the bottom of the bulb was too long, not allowing the bulb to go all the way into the socket. The bulb would back out at the first hint of vibration and stop working.
