Cadillac ATS: Battery Remove & Replace

I just replaced my 2014 ATS 2. 0L Performance battery (group H6) and it was not as difficult as the video makes it out to be. Took me less than 30 minutes from start to finish and I am just an average DIYer. It is not harder than any of the newer cars where the battery is buried under plastic cowlings in the hood.
I bought a T45 socket from Home Depot for 3, removed the two tie downs bolts on trunk lid area. Then I lifted the plastic piece straight up and it easily unsnaps. Then I removed just two of the closest fasteners holding the carpet above the battery compartment and you can swing it to the side without removing any of the fasteners on top or back. Removing the battery is then pretty straightforward. Remember to put the vent plug on the positive side of the battery and the vent tube on the neg side before attaching the terminals and bracket. Oops, that cost me a extra 5 minutes: -)

Bought a 1998 Chrysler Sebring. Traveling from Tucson to San Francisco and was teaching my new girlfriend how to drive. Now she had everything mastered except braking. Well it was midnight and we pulled into a gas station to get gas and she was heading right into the pump. She hit the concrete pillar and smashed the front fender. Brand new car at the time and I noticed water leaking from the wheel well. Battery was under the fender. Changing the battery with a smashed fender at midnight with limited tools and no flashlight had to rank up there with the worst battery change I ever did. Maybe on second thought my girlfriend didnt have everything mastered, she couldnt steer very well either!

Back in the day Oreilly auto parts was called checker auto parts in Arizona. I always shopped at Napa because they had high quality parts and the prices matched the quality and the parts people knew what they were talking about. Fast forward to 2017 and I walked into a Napa and they could not tell me about and upstream or downstream o2 sensor and they didnt have the best quality parts. I went to Oreilly and to my amazement they told me everything I needed to know (and it was correct) and they had a OEM replacement. In addition they were actually very friendly unlike the Napa folks. I was a bit shocked at how Napa operates nowadays.

Worst battery i ever changed was on 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. I had to remove a three foot bar, power distribution box. Radiator hoses, and relocate wire harnesses. Once you disassemble the engine compartment you can still only barely access the battery in the fender well. Had to tip it sideways to remove and replace. The job was made harder because it was dark out and I could only use one hand because the other one held the flash light. Lol. Good times. It took almost an hour. I looked up on YouTube afterwards and some people were saying it was a two hour job.

You have to jack the car up, pull the wheel off, then you can acces the plastic inner fender which comes off with about four little screws. Quite a pain. Also that nasty side mount which I hate. That cad looks worse though lol! Love your vids, even the brake ones. Keep em commin!

A small permanent magnet won't affect a pacemaker. A strong, modulated magnetic field, or radio waves at specific frequencies, _might_. For instance, if you have a pacemaker, you shouldn't carry your cell phone in your left inside pocket. The pacemaker itself is pretty well shielded, but the electrodes act as antennas.

I understand why they put the battery in the trunk. The 2. 0L ATS has almost perfect weight distribution - 51% front and 49% rear. Like has already been said, why they didn't take another 5 minutes out of their day to engineer battery replacement more intelligently is beyond me.

The battery on my PT Cruiser is under the passenger seat (it's the diesel) changed it a few times in the 2 years I've had it and only recently found out it's supposed to be a gel battery on its side, I've had a standard low profile battery all this time

Kind a bad engineering FUBAR, putting battery in trunk and that much work to get it out! I had a 63 Plymouth 426 Ramcharger 2 X4 factory Drag race car has a big D4 diesel battery in trunk over right axle and dual cable easy to service!

The engineers could have made the battery more accessible. If it's hard to replace its deliberate cause the dealers want maintenance tasks to be hard to do to make money off customers. Just one more way GM is alienating their customers.
