How many have you seen where a big hole is cut through the bed just above the gas tank, for easy access to the tank and fuel pump That boggles my mind when there are 8 bolts that hold the bed on and you can slide the bed back enough to give you plenty of room to work. Of course, you could also drop that tank but I think sliding the bed is easier and it doesn't mater as much what the level of fuel is in the tank.

I did the fuel pump on my 2012 Silverado because of the poor design of the tank and the well that it sits in, Northern Michigan and a ton of salt in the winter.
Not even 2 weeks later my wife's 2011 Yukon did the same damn thing. At least I had a good game plan going forward! And you know I was able to do them both in my driveway thanks to SMA! Thanks Dr. O

All they would have to do is build it out of stainless and it would last. Smh.
I can understand cutting corners to make money - but certain things should be built to last.
I guess they figure the pump might go out by the time it's rusted anyway. So you still would have to do the job. IDk. The choices these bean counters make ruins their brand.

05 Yukon 2wd 5. 3 with 130k. Calif car so zero rust. Last summer the evap system had a meltdown. The cannister imploded sending charcoal into the tank. All the lines and the evap components. Result: new tank, lines, evap parts. I had them use all OEM parts. Really it’s the only prob we’ve had with it. Still a nice ride.

I agree with ya about the 2700 for the repairs, but skilled labor has gotten in such short demand. You can literally name your own price if people are willing to pay it for any kind of repair nowadays. I've said for the last 10 years that skilled labor will be the new doctors' pay in all our futures.

A couple G's for that That looks like the off cuts I would scrap. As part of what my company did was putting new floors in dumpsters. I was paying $50 / pc. I could have been overcharging to fix GM pickups the whole time.

That's what mine looked like. Had the local ripoffship diagnose my gas leak. They gave me a quote, hahaha, I bought everything they had on the quote for less than what they wanted to charge me for the new fuel pump.

I have a 2012 and it’s so dumb I’ve replaced mine for the same problem and like you said plastic tanks, lines, they were 90% there and the pumps still work that’s the shame

Why do they use so much salt out east Same thing here in Canada, i live in Alberta, we get snow, but our vehicles don’t rust anywhere near as bad as the ones from Ontario, and east.

2700 bucks That my friend, is a licensed to defraud crook with a welder, it looks like is scrap all through the framing. Not even 20 $ worth the materials on that frame patch.

Chevrolet, feeding mechanics every day. Oh how good it is to be fixing yet another Chevrolet! Fix, Fix, Fix, then flush it, that's the life of a Chevrolet!

The one thing i cant figure out is why the dont put and access in the bed to get to the pump. being its so common for fule pumps to go bad.

Try Mr Wiggles! He may see better! And thats why we have Trust Issues! I Think Mrs. O needs to watch this shenanigans a little better!

Sweet little video. Surprised you haven't been picked up by a sponsor yet. Figured Napa would have a sign hanging in the shop by now.
reply

sounds like the owners of them should get the heaviest thick grease they can and pack the whole area with it when new. lol

Atleast that generation of GM truck could take you to 200, 000 miles unlike the 2014-2018 generation which is absolute junk.
reply

Yep, steel corrodes. Just needs a bit of salt, to go faster, and you have loads of it there. Kind of an horror story, Eric.
