The Alpine is not an all rounder. yes it is light and so this is a positive for its speed and handling but as far as anything else goes it is a non starter. It is small, the cabin is cramped and has no storage and is a a complete disappointment in its finish and quality with cheap plastic all over the place. So in -real world- practicality the Alpine is a lot of money for a basic fun weekend vehicle and who wants to afford that? The new A110s takes things up a gear with engine and suspension and hopefully there will be a cup or GT4 version but at the moment its a non starter as a purchase and possibly to back that up I have NEVER yet seen one on the road! ( and before anyone talks about non appreciation of Alpine etc - I have owned an original model 1600S)

An answer for all english speaker say: why -al-peen-? it not french accent over english word actualy (lol, like it's possible, almost 80% of your formal vocalulary words are french, you should know that):
It's alpine because of the alps mountains. Alpin is masculin way to say something from the alps and alpine is the feminin way. A car is feminin word in french language so it's called alpine. The i in french pronounce -ee-. -

Great video. Both look fantastic. But I do own an M2 so I'm gonna biased. but of course the Alpine looks and sounds great and I'm sure it's a really great car. But as a daily, the M2 is just better imo. It's a regular 2 series BMW for people who don't know about cars. And you can fit more than 2 people in it, you also get a real rear trunk. The BMW is not just a sport car.

i had a nissan 300z for a few years and during that time i feel in love with the sound of a six cylinder accelerating hard, it had a good aftermarket exhaust, and as brilliant as the Alpine is, that four sounds sh-t- and i wouldn't buy it, the bean counters have underestimated the value of engine sound and i wonder if they will ever learn.

I spent my life desiring a 911 and not being able to afford one. Became a bit of a fantasy thing. Now that I can, this A110 is out. and it's ruining my plans. It's not the car i dreamt of. but it's objectively better on swiss mountain roads. And way cheaper. But not a 911. Now i'm confused.

Great car. drove one late 2019. really fun and I like the smaller size too. but 2 comments. 1. styling ok, but not great James May said, don't try and refresh, do something bold & new. and second, it badly needs a six speed manual. it would be so much more fun with a six speed.

Mmmm. to cheat on the fatness of the M2, the suspension seems super stiff. just look at the camera shaking in that behemoth.
Not saying I'd love the Alpine, I am French and I KNOW how bad (read traumatically awful) automatic transmissions are from Renault.

You could put a whole Alpine A110 1600s on top of the new Alpine and it would weigh what the bmw weighs.
The way the Alpine handles and rides as theyre desribing it is how French cars used to handle and ride. Then they forgot somehow.

I respect this review. But I totally disagree with. The M2 comp is still unboxing from any other rival car in its segment. it's the daily sport muscle rocket hardcore driver car!
