Yes the motor sounds like ass. But look at it like this. The F30/F80 are about the same size as an E39. This is NOT an M3. The M3 died with the E46. This is the new M5. The -M3- is the upcoming M2, which will be that much rawer and playful, just like the M235i is compared to the 335i, and the E30/E46 are in comparison to the E90/this.
I am bummed that natural aspiration is dying in the affordable performance realm, but at the end of the day, if the cost of gas, performance at altitude, or highway cruising torque are concerns, turbos are just superior. Sadly I don't think there is a good sounding blown 6 in existence, but I think with time someone will figure it out.

Can the reviewer please explain his comment about the engine?

What does that mean please?
Is he saying the engine feels sluggish, soft, lacking in incredible thrust, or something else?
Does he prefer the lack of power below 2, 500rpm in the old engine compared to the newer engines instant thrust at just above tickover?
Also please can the next video show the car handling well through corners and not just sliding the rear in every single shot of cornering?
Overall a great video but some hard cornering showing the limits would be an improvement.
And a drag race v the old M3 too!

Does he prefer the lack of power below 2, 500rpm in the old engine compared to the newer engines instant thrust at just above tickover?
Also please can the next video show the car handling well through corners and not just sliding the rear in every single shot of cornering?

Calm down on the motor. You sound like that pompous clown from Florida that has a GT3 also. The car is the best looking, and performing car in its class. We've been used to hearing high revving small displacement V8's (that sound great by the way) for a while now. For instance RS4, & M3, the staples of hopped up German salons. But in reality the v8 boat has sailed away. Poor mpg with the extra weight. Lighter 6 pots with more torque & power is here to stay. We'll get used to the canny sound. Plus we don't have a choice!

Why the driver spend 90% of the time going sideways. What's the point of all that drifting sideways; its not going faster that is for sure. Firstly, it defies physics in terms of going from point A to point B in the shortest way possible. Secondly as low profile and high-performance tires goes, all that drifting could have been done on narrower tires. Spend all that money on a high-performance car to go sideways makes a lot of sense.

Actually Chris Harris is brilliant, but I disagree with him that Mcars are all about the engine, I think they are more about the chassis. They bang on about the V8 but the fact is that the E92 was the only M car ever to come with a V8, all the previous M cars were straight sixes, albeit not turbo'd. I have a 1M and love the motor, my mates E92 feels gutless in comparison through the midrange.

My mate is got a Bmw 1M and is pretty much the same engine as this one what is strange his bmw 1m sound like straight 6 is great car but when it comes to noise doesnt sound that good to be honest. what is strange to me is this new M3 sounds like the old 4. 0 V8 I dont know bmw done that the car doesnt even sound like is got turbo's either ot sound like V8 wish is quite nice

Twin turbo V6 has tons of potential and the nice bump in torque is always a huge bonus. Going to give one a test drive tomorrow, if the throttle reponse is a tad lacking a Dinan tune should more than fix that. Nicely balanced car, wonder about the M4, going to have to compare for sure.

Wait till people start messing around with the turbo's and this car starts making 700hp. This is a car for guys like me that have messed with 2JZGTE's and RB26's that have grown up. I gurantee these cars will start stomping 911 Turbo's and GTR's

The sound is really better than what people think! From inside it sounds so mean! And the engine is a masterpiece! The torque is incredible! The car is soo precise! My customers say that the more they drive it, the more they like it!
