The new Maserati Quattroporte is big news for the Italian marque. The car is kick-starting the firm's ambitions to increase sales ten-fold, so the stakes have never been higher. Steve Sutcliffe pitches it against our favourite luxury car, the Jaguar XJ to see which is best. Read Autocar's Maserati Quattroporte review - Read Autocar's Jaguar XJ review

If u want ultimate luxury, go for the S-Class, the king of the segment. If u want sportiness, go for the Panamera, the ultimate 4-door sports car. Whilst the Quattroporte GTS which has 530HP does 0-100 km/h in 4. 7 seconds, the Panamera 4S which only has 440HP (and not particularly smaller or lighter than the Italian btw, in fact both cars r in the F-Segment) and does it in 4. 2 sec on paper and 3. 7 in reality. While the Turbo which is supposed to be a closer match only does it in 3. 6 sec on paper, so expect it to be faster in real life. I think Jaguar and Maserati are the most overpriced brands in the world. They used to deserve their prices back when they made E-Types and very first Quattroportes. Now that Jaguar is owned by Indian Tata Motors and Maserati by Fiat, they r shit. Hell, the Quattroporte-s interior looks like a Chrysler 300C-s, whether or not it shares the parts with it

I gotta agree with their conclusions here - I-ve been finding Maserati has been dropping the ball a bit in recent years, but their engine notes are just exquisite. But the Jaguar is truly a great automobile, particularly the supercharged V8 - it-s got a comfortable interior, and a good ride - while not as comfortable as the S-Class, it-s just so much better to drive.
As to the looks, some have said the Jaguar is ugly - personally, I think it-s best looking big executive saloon/sedan on the market. It-s distinctive and elegant, whereas I find the Maserati headlights to be a bit too -squinty- as it were.

If the service manager is a gorgeous tramp you buy the Jaguar. If you want a reliable luxury sedan you buy the Lexus. If of course you want a luxury sport sedan that looks as good when parked or moving, you buy the Maserati. and you of course are not limited to the gorgeous tramp service manager at the Jaguar dealership.

Quattroporte to me always felt like a natural upgrade to the XF (sporty 4 door) more than similar in any way to the XJ (a true saloon. it's skinnier, lithe, and sportier like the XF. price range it's more like an XJ but body wise and handling it's sporty and skinny like an XF not a saloon like an XJ.

For those of you who are crying, the jag is without a doubt the better car lol, the Maserati rear is kinda nice and sounds good but the jag sounds even better, QP interior is a step up in terms of the infotainment system but it's ugly compared to the last gen 2013 qp and the Jag and Rapide

People just can't accept that Jaguar now makes cars which can seriously challenge its rivals for best in class. Most people who talk down to the XJ will never be able to afford a XJ, so why would Jaguar be bothered about their opinions anyway?

You just have to drive an XJR. To fall in love. Ive owned practically everything from race tuned Lotus' to LS7 Vettes. with V12 Mercs in between. I can honestly say that to drive anything other than a big Jaguar, is pointless (for me anyway)

both lost character.
2008 XJ > 2015 XJ
2008 quattroporte > 2015 quattroporte
but the new XJ is a really good car. the quattroporte? naaa. this cheap chevrolet interior really is a no go.

Jaguar XJ is a great car, but it's looks / design will date far quicker than the Maserati Quattroporte, even the old Quattroporte still looks superb even though it's 9 years old!

The Maserati is a nice looking car but I can't stand the 'pitch fork insignia on the grill and steering wheel. I have the 2016 XJ. It is a wonderful car and I will stick with Jaguar.
