Land Rover Discovery v Toyota Land Cruiser - which is the ultimate off-roader? Full story, pictures and more videos at Simon: Without even watching the whole video, id never ever drive a Land Rover car again. Unreliable rubbish. Had all sorts of problems since the first Range Rover I had as a company car, and that goes for any LR car. Failed electrics, failing engine, leaking heater matrix, switches not working, heater failure, infotainment screen errors, sensor faults, the list is bloody endless. Just not good enough. Such a pity because the capability off road is impressive but no way would I risk it. The Toyota will not leave you stranded unless you get two punctures or run out of fuel! I like the agricultural nature of the Land Cruiser. Not cheap to buy new, but worth it as a long term purchase and to be honest, id keep it long into retirement and thats many years away.

I love that generation of LR Discovery, possibly one of the greatest 4x4s ever - can go almost anywhere offroad yet it's supreme onroad too. It absolutely looks the part too!
But, buy a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and you know it'll do 200K-500K miles. If you're lucky enough to live in Australia, you can still buy the 70 Series Toyota Land Cruiser - which will do 500K miles easily.
Most Discos, after 100K, start to get very expensive to run, and will probably be spending more time in the garage than being used for its intended purpose. If you look at most footage, these days, of people overlanding in Australia or Africa, or what the UN or other NGOs use in remote locations - it's generally a Toyota, and for good reason.

People literally think land rovers are the most unreliable things that break down constantly, if you ask me people just need an excuse because they know they just can-t afford a better car. I-m almost to 200k miles on my LR3 haven-t had a breakdown or any major repairs.

According To My Point Of View All Are Cool And Luxurious SUV's But Our Likes Are Different And According To This Data Toyota Is Japanese Automobile Company And Land Rover Is British Automobile Company And There Are Different And They Uses Different Technology

Hmm. For the commenters who are highlighting the Land Rover's questionable reliability, I suspect if you ask owners of later model LandCruisers about reliability, when their DPF filter has just failed AGAIN, you might get a different response.

What do they say? 'If you want to go across the desert, take the LandRover, and if you want to make it back, you take the Land cruiser'. And taking these cars in a snowy wood, isn't really a test is it? Good vid though

on road comfort is quite important. in australia you have to drive 2-3 hours on road to reach the camping site or off road track. it is not easy to sit in a shitty car with below average interior and laggy throttle.

Brilliant. So right about the electronics. the sophistication of the terrain management is what sets these cars above. Anybody can bolt on a locker, but nobody programs the control systems as well as Toyota and LR.

in darjeeling india a mountain zone there are most of the land rover series 1 still running and which are them are more than 70 years old. now how can you say that LR are unreliable?

As of January 2022 the discovery has only done about 88, 000 miles and has a good mot history.
The Land cruiser 150 must have a private plate on it.
