The 2024 Polestar 2's New Motors Are Exactly What It Needed First Drive Review

Polestar is not afraid of switching things up. Last year they gave us a long range single motor model with a front motor. Sounds practical, right? Forget about it. This year the single motor is 50% more powerful and it's in the back. Dual motor models also get a change: more power in the back, less torque steer, and everything gets longer range than before thanks to better efficiency. Charging? Oddly that's only better with the single motor model, but the charge peak is high (205 kW) and supposedly flat which should enable 25-30 minute charging sessions.

Great video! I graduated from CU Boulder in 1995 so enjoyed the canyon roads! My Long Range RWD Polestar just arrived in the county and will be delivered to me here in South Australia within the next few weeks. I opted for the RWD model as it has heaps of power, amazing range and also got the Pilot package with all the driving assist and fancy headlights. I think it s the reincarnation of an early 2000s Australian V8 Holden Commodore sedan in looks and driving style - an electric tame muscle car if you like.
I opted against the sunroof/leather but did get the tow package. The AWD in Australia does get the big battery and fast charging, so that s interesting. I don t plan on off-roading mine, so RWD is best. We do also get a Standard Range RWD with an even smaller battery.
We don t have a lot of choice in Australia if you don t want a Tesla. We have the Recharge Volvos, and we get the ID5 next year which I like and also a few cheaper BMWs soon apparently. I am looking forward to taking my P2 on some very long road trips across to Western Australia and down to Tasmania, so stay tuned if you re a Polestar fan!

The Europeans for some reason get the better battery in the dual motor as well, so you're probably correct about us getting a further updated DM next model year. I think the bigger improvement comes in the motors as it's not exactly bad in terms of charging speed or range as it is. Just means that the rwd and fully upgraded performance models are the stars of the show this year.

After seeing the refreshed model 3, this still seems like a better vehicle in many ways except price, if the refreshed model 3 retains only 3750 tax credit, and the price only increases about 1-2k per trim, that would put it somewhere in the 45k range, vs 60k for this but if you lease polestar 2 every day, also the switch to LFP is delightful

The LRSM will be the sweet spot for most folks who dont need AWD. Polestar also passes on the federal tax credit to you if you lease via lease loophole, and they're now giving you 8, 500 if you get a '24. The Model 3 is the better buy but the P 2 is the better lease.

Ioniq 6 vs polestar 2 vs model 3 for me. I just rented a polestar 2 and the infotainment screen kept freezing and sometimes navigation wouldn t work. I really don t like the fabric seats. Driving was alright I may have to give it another shot. But I love the ioniq 6

Across the board the Model 3 is 10, 000 cheaper for competitive trims. Also you say this has more tech just because it has a longer list of various items. The 3 is still a more fluid, advanced, intuitive infotainment system.

Nice review. The biggest issue I have is that dealer network. I m not going to even look at a car that you can t have serviced in my town. The closest dealer or service center is 200 miles away, and I m in a major city.

I just priced one on their website at 53, 600 for the base RWD with adaptive cruise and a trailer hitch added and that s with the current 1000 discount and one usable cup holder. No deal. Make it 40k and I m interested.

It's a pretty bold move to change the drivetrain halfway through a vehicle's production cycle. Usually manufacturers tend to wait to the end of that cycle before changing the drivetrain for a new generation.

Polestar's website calls it a fastback & I agree - not everything has to be a SUV. Love it. I'd go with the RWD version. Actually, I lust for the Polestar 1, but don't know how to trap a unicorn. :)

This car is so much better looking than the Model 3, including the new one. Unfortunately, as long as the CCS charging network remains the trash fire that it is, this car is fighting an uphill battle.

27: 00 wow, the clarity and beautiful video shots are amazing. Of course I was listening to the information which as always is top notch, but the images are striking!

Here in Europe the Longrange dual motor/performance got the same 82KwH battery and 350KW for the performance version. Charging speed is 205kw max

Surprisingly cramped inside for an EV with bulky dash and big center tunnel - like it shares a platform for a rear drive combustion engine.

Had a chuckle at the renewable leather. A lot of things are renewable this way, not sure how morally acceptable they are: )
