I’ve always liked the frontier. It’s a truck that’s got modern amenities but it still feels simple to use and old inside. It’s also absolutely ancient with a frame that dates back to 2005. Overall, it’s a nice mix of old platform with new amenities and safety gear, and can be had at a lower price. It’s a nice compact workhorse and almost like the last generation Tacoma, but not reliable or as reliable.
That said, it’s a truck that doesn’t sell as well as people praise it on the internet, so shows many truck buyers want the latest gear and tech, are willing to pay for it, and don’t really use trucks as trucks. Still a cool truck and hope to see a cheaper option, but sadly doesn’t sell as well.

I’d blindly get the frontier over the Tacoma all day long.
Nissan managed to do what Toyota simply cannot do: give us a reliable truck with a bulletproof v6. And with Toyota having issues w the transmission and rear differentials.
So the frontier has that unusual combination: it’s cheaper than the taco, AND more reliable than the taco, and better than the taco, and simpler than the taco
That means that unless you’re certifiably insane and a member of the Toyota cult where anything Toyota is so reliable and that any other brand in existence is the biggest pile of garbage in history, buy the frontier over the taco and call it a day.

Honestly in the comparison about the ridgeline, I just dont like hondas. If ford had a new version of the explorer pickup or chevy had a pickup based on the traverse or ram had one based on the durango, id definitely be interested. Hell if nissan had one based on the pathfinder or dare I say toyota have one based on the grand highlander with their tier 1 hybrid system, or even the phev from the tx.
Just honda feels like thay havent made a car worth buying since about 2013 because if i want a modern honda i can just buy a 2012 and get 100% of the car

The only strength of this truck is the V6 with the 9 speed and now has a telescoping wheel, the rest need to be changed. Not a fan of hydraulic power steering since u have to change the fluid every couple years and feels too heavy. I'd buy one used since they tend to depreciate really fast. Compared to other off road pickup trucks in this segment this one is the least capable, only has a rear locker, skid plates and Bilstein shocks unless u plan to upgrade everything on it.

Although the Frontier seems like a better option for towing than some of the other mid-sized trucks, unless you need a smaller truck to fit your garage (or you don't feel comfortable in a bigger vehicle, then for towing why not get a Silverado 1/2 ton for towing (Or another full-sized 1/2 tone) The stated fuel economy is about the same, so why settle for the smaller Frontier

I own a 2022 Frontier SV purchased new. Three years in and it’s been reliable as a hammer.
The drive train is a gem. Powerful and refined. Towing is a breeze. I towed a 4, 000lb travel trailer from AZ to PA and back. It did a MUCH better job than my 2003 Tundra making the same trip. I love my Frontier and would buy it again.

The others in this segment are good with the individual strengths and weaknesses; but as an overall package this truck is number 1 in my book. The main thing is it has a proven powertrain while the others are all still up in the air. I could be wrong about the Rangers motor though as I didn’t shop that one.

Everyone that i been watching for reviews have been saying very good things about this truck. And coming from a subaru and been wanting a truck to build up. This is becoming my go to. Mods are cheaper on the aftermarket side. No fuss like in other trucks in its class and its simple. love it

The Nissan is a solid value proposition. Toyota pulled cost out of Tacoma and raised the prices. Sorry, I’m not playing along. The Ranger Raptor is also a good option. But, I see the PRO 4X going for just over 43K for the top build. That’s a pretty good deal considering

I have a '23 Frontier that just passed 40, 000 miles and it's been fantastic. A very old school truck. No turbos. No hybrid. Old fashioned hydraulic steering rack. Basic 4x4 switch it yourself system. There is a lot less tech and nannies to fail. Maintenance is super easy.

It is an interesting comparison. Thanks. For me, I will take economy, so what you have shown me is the Ridgeline. It is more like the El Camino and Ranchero days of yore. Maybe compare the Ridgeline against the Maverick hybrid. I’d pay money to watch that one.

That's crazy 18 mpg combined. unacceptable for today standards. I have the, 2018 Ford f150 full size pick up truck and I get 26 hwy or more and 23 combined mix driving. lower I got cause I have a heavy foot is, 18 mpg city still full size unacceptable

Bought a 25 Pro4x, White with 6' box, and luxury package. I'm a vehicle junkie, research heavily, and purchase with a ten year plan. We have numerous vehicles, but for midsize light duty tasks this checked all boxes for me. Time will tell.

Got myself 2024 Frontier. It's an honest midsize truck. Nothing crazy. It's a truck, it feels like one and handles like one. Honest. Still in Pro4X it's got a nice screen, leather seats and all the basics. Happy with it. No regrets.

Pro-4X, fully loaded with discounts and a naturally aspirated V6 everyone says they want. Only to buy a near 60k turbo charged Tacoma after taxes and financing is done with you. The US market is a brand loyalist’s paradise.

Nice review. And I agree with your assessment of the Ridgeline as well. 99% of the truck that 95% of people need. It just doesn't appeal to the Tim Allen grunting noise truck buyer (i. e. it's not an emotional support truck)

Design and styling i would give the edge to the Frontier. The Taco side view is good but the front is off seems as if two designers were sculpting it and no cohesion looks like two vehicles slapped together.

Just bought a 2025 Frontier King Cab SV 4X4 and love it, you can’t beat the V6 engine and the new upgrades, and the price was $4, 000 to $5, 000 cheaper than all the other midsize trucks
