Joe, you and Nicole should come to Osage County, the Great Osage Nation Reservation. Pawhuska, the County seat, is booming with business and tourism!
They filmed the movie, soon to be released, Killers of the Flower Moon, here and it is the exact place where Indian princesses and heirs to Osage oil, and mineral rights. were taken advantage of, and some killed.
There's Frank Phillips home, museum, and wildlife ranch, the Great Heritage Trails, the Drummond's vast wild horse ranges, Mounds. built centuries ago, by the mound builders. likely gravesites. Actual graveyards, in the wilderness, round houses, where Indian rituals were held - it's all here.

This is so surreal! I grew up in Arnett, though I don't live there anymore. It's a very nice, quiet, little town.
15: 36 Yep! It was a theater at one point!
16: 29 When the town was voting whether to build the new jail, there was talk that this small cabin would be torn down (because this cabin used to be near the courthouse. It was relocated to Addington park a few years ago to preserve it, and you can actually walk inside!
17: 28 I'm fairly certain the liquor store is closed but R&R is a nice place. Has the neccessities!

These small towns were close knit farming communities before the oil boom of the 1980's. Charming, friendly towns. What you see now is the result of that oil boom ending, oil companies did nothing to clean up the pollution and waste they just left. Many of the fields are too toxic now to grow anything. At the same time corporate food giants bought up many family farms and made it impossible for a family to make a living by farming or raising livestock. PS, if a house has a window A C unit, it's not abandoned. Shocking, huh

Another wonderful Video! Thank you Joe! Saw the cat! Just wanted to mention, your just giving a very balanced view of what your showing seeing and some editing. You didn’t build any of these towns that your viewing fans watch. I just have to scratch my head at some comments from some people, it’s as if it’s a personal attack on their state let alone their town Keep up this great adventure and keep asking what do you think !

I lived in Hollis, OK in Harmon county. A lot of closed down buildings, an and a few that have started collapsing. Apparently some years back the assistant chief of police was having relations with a female inmate at the jail. She sued the county, who was insured for a million dollars, but she won 12 or 15 million. So it is one of the poorest places in the state.
reply

And this is the richest country in the world. We can see how the poor live in your country thanks to your videos. I think your country cares about the rich people only. Sorry for being too honest, anyway I love your videos, you're doing a great job here, I literally feel like I'm in these towns when I watch it. It looks so realistic. Greetings from the UK

I think that rural Oklahoma looks so much prettier than much of the USa becuase there are so many hedges, reminiscent of rural France or EnglandThis looks beautiful and you know what the first time in my old age I feel the urge to travel again and see this palce. First time anywhere in the US has attracted me-nature galore and few people what paradise!

No matter how slow or quiet, you'll likely always find a fire department in every single official town, city, village, etc etc. Usually fire service is required. People don't realize that 80% of every firefighter in America is 100% volunteer. I did it for 14 years here in the Trenton and Princeton New Jersey area. Greatest experiences of my life.

All of of Oklahoma is rural ( except OKC & Tulsa) most of the state is forgotten, 76000 Square Miles with a pop of 4 million 1/2 of the D/FW Pop ) if you want to see abandon, come to E. Oklahoma, where the Blacks were given towns, after the war. Remember a Full Blood Cherokee ( Stan Waites ) was the last Confederate General to surrender.

Why does information say, 'cost of living is low'. The only thing that's low is housing. Utilities are national average, Food is mostly higher due to lack of competition. Vehicles national average. So what's so low about living there And if the wages are low, that's even more of a burden.
reply

Love your videos. It is amazing to me that there is never any human being walking around in these beautiful localities. Yes, he is driving around. But there are loads of cars parked everywhere. The law of averages ought to work in the favor of some human appearing from somewhere.

Went to college at Oklahoma State. I remember driving up from Texas going the back way up state hwy 51, there were plenty of rundown towns out there. This video really reminds me of those drives up through the middle of nowhere Oklahoma, there’s really nowhere like it.
reply

i always wonder why do some towns thrive and others just slowly fall apart and WHY DOES! anyone stay in those rundown forgotten towns
IF YOU CAN'T EVEN FIND A CONVENIENCE STORE and gas station its time to move on

reply

I found in some small towns in west Oklahoma are causing their own own fall. They don't want outsiders in so they are getting smaller and smaller, and the one I SAS in should be a ghost town as soon as possable. They run their towns like the ones in charge are the mafia.
reply

My god, I’m from Arnett ok (30 min drive to gage and as a freshman in HS, gage was the team I loved because I would get some playing time because of how bad they were. They even joined up with our baseball team because they didn’t have enough players.
reply

If anyone is wondering why there is very little crime, its because most of it is NOT reported by local enforcement. Just being honest as being someone that lives it daily. Most rural towns here have a ton of crime!
reply

It always surprises me when you state the peak population and current populations of these cities. It's like America is dying slowly and no one is noticing. Everyone has coalesced around big cities but for what
reply

Also, VICI isn’t called Vichy (although we sarcastically call it that) the locals pronounced the hard I in the name (Like the I in Ice or the I sound from eye) so it would be pronounced VeyeCeye
reply

According to Wiki, 19. 3% of the households in Gage was someone 65 years of age or older living alone. Many of these people have no choices, no money, so aren't going shopping or maintaining their home.
reply

This is how to start a civilization you move mixed people here for free they pick their homes then renovate with help from the government. In 3years they will start paying taxes
reply

Bro. You missed out on a local legend in Gage. there's a place called Charlie's bar & Grill. The steaks are off the hook! Nest time you're there You gotta go! Trust me on this one.
reply

I enjoy following your trips but I do with you would give median family income and median income figuresI think median household figures can be a little confusing and misleading
reply

Warm regards from Spain. Your videos are a constant source of enjoyment for me. I sincerely hope you persist in creating them for an extended period.

Thanks for giving the temperature in both Fahrenheit and Centigrade - I was brought up on F (as I am old) but living in the UK became used to C!

You Should go to Glenco Oklahoma. It's about 30 mins east of Stillwater, a lot of my family grew up there. I think the population is like 100-150 ish.
reply

Early settlers massacred native people who had been living there for thousands years. Now their descendants left it empty and dilapidated. Sad.
reply

Of you, Charliebo, and Nick Johnson, i seem to like your content the most. I'm sick of seeing the same places over and over again
reply

My great grandparents are buried at Shattuck, great great grandparents at Gage. Thanks for sharing. They settled there in the 1880's.
reply

Crazy disparity on this country. look how long it's taken for Detrtoit to recover. only economic necessity will turn this around
reply

How are you determining whether anyone lives in those houses Surely you are not using presence of a vehicle to make that call.
reply

where you have Asian diaspora, you have less crime. Unless they happen to be Pakistanis or Bangladeshis (UK Prime example.
reply

Empty and decaying are kind of the story of Oklahoma. That whole state is dying and, no doubt, as ugly as it gets anywhere.
reply

people leave for work and never come back to invest in their town. there will be a lot a ghost towns at this rate.
