i went all the way to the end with a friend in 1984. drove up the beach on the beach for as long as it felt safe. parked, boarded all the wheels to not get stuck and stayed there for a month. really got into the wind, surf, doing psychodelics, discovered a nudist area. had some almost spiritual experiences. ah, the good old days. the water is always warm, sometimes tooo warm. summer time temperatures are REALLY intense. living there MUST have a. c. at the end stayed in a hotel in port isabell for a couple nights. ate a lot of good food, enjoyed the a. c. met a lot of nice people. nice memories. wonder what ever happened to that woman.

My aunt and uncle live there and in 2012 when my dad passed away they flew me there for 2 weeks so I could just relax. It's beautiful there and the white sandy beaches were a surprise. I never knew Texas had beaches like that. My uncle took me cruising in their convertible Mini Cooper along the beach. Great shops and food there. It makes me kind of sad watching this video because of the memories of my dad, but also good memories of my aunt and uncle. They say they make sure to shop for two weeks for groceries and other things before Spring because its crazy during that time and they just stay in.

6: 41 About 20 years ago my family and I were in south padre Island and a storm was rolling in the shark store was closed and I was going to park my van in its mouth and take a picture, but right before I did, A lightning strike came down on the Electric Power station next door (it had a chainlink fence at the time, and hit an oil transformer a police cruiser was hit directly with sparks, and You can see everyone making a U turn, it was hilarious.

About the warm Gulf water - I know what you mean. In my youth growing up on the Texas coast, beach water was the same temperature as the summer air. Since, I've lived on the East and West coasts -- have never been able to enjoy going in the water at those beaches on either coast.

During this same trip we did a beach drive and helped out another family who got their vehicle stuck in the sand. Lots of memories made here, I would love to visit this place again.

FYI: The main difference between Neptune and Poseidon is their origin Neptune is the god of the sea and freshwater in Roman myths while Poseidon has the same dominion in Greek mythology. On the other hand, Poseidon had many children including Theseus, Polyphemus, and Atlas while Neptune had none.

Thank you for the nice review. I live on SPI. Peak season is from spring break until Labor Day. During off season it is so quiet and relaxing. The city has stringent codes for yards and upkeep. Dog friendly. Nice community. Watching Space x launch is superb. Great restaurants. Clean beaches. Slow pace. I live in paradise. City motto is the spirit of slow.

After looking at all those stilt homes on south padre Island i can tell you that they are not high enough, just look at the Damage in ft Myers beach from Hurrican Ian, The surge went up to the middle of the second story, If I owned one of those I would be calling the realtor Tomorrow, this area is due for a Big one

We frequent S. Padre (not to be ever confused with N. Padre off corpus christi) this is a Hidden Gem of an Island! inland in Port Isabel has some great food, people things to see. We are looking at moving here in the Future. you can ride your bike anywhere across the island in minutes.

My wife and I were there a few years ago. Nice condo with a beautiful pool. There wasn’t massive things to do there, but enjoyed some museums in Port Isabel along with the lighthouse. Some very cool sanctuaries for sea life and birds on the bay side.

I’m surprised you overlooked the sea turtle conservation center. Other points of interest include Clayton’s which is the biggest beach bar in Texas and has a pier over the surf. SPI Brewing has the best microbrew in south Texas, IMO.

When in the Gulf of Mexico, It's advisable to slide your feet rather than take normal steps. If you step on a stingray or catfish, it will be a painful experience you will never forget. Slide your feet when in the ocean.

I was here last 83' and 86' I do recall Louie's Backyard, we were broke college kids we drove are cars onto the beach and slept in sleeping bags, had a better time in 83'. Can you still drive your cars on the beach and camp

That sand castle was not voodo crap it was traditional dia de Los muertos art. Of all the videos you showed of the valley this is the only time you showed the nice areas. McAllen, Edinburg and PSJA are beautiful.

I grew up in the Valley in the 50s and 60s. Everyone drove their cars on the beach and parked in rows right on the sand. No development, just a couple of restaurants and a couple of old motels.

Its crazy people go here on vacation. My whole life we’ve just gone on random weekends throughout the year. i suppose living about 40 minutes away isn’t so bad.

From anywhere in Texas it’s a longgggg trip. Most people from other states will think they drove thru several states if the leave from Austin or San Antonio.

Port Mansfield waters are better but only a 30 minute run up the cut from SPI to PM waters. Grew up down there. Love it still to this day!

It's very nice place to explore. I didn't like Corpus Christi! The beaches in Corpus Christi weren't half as clean as S. Padre island!
