Pallet Cabin Tree House: FULL BUILD Start to Finish

Pallet Cabin Tree House: FULL BUILD Start to Finish

We build an off grid cabin in the trees using free recycled pallet wood. We tried to save money by using recycled pallets for the walls and roof. The cabin is raised up on some stilts and it wraps around a beech tree. Most people don't have the space, time or money to build a log cabin, but building a tiny home in the trees is achievable by using recycled materials and this is where pallet wood works so well. The entrance to the cabin is up the ladder and through a trap door. It is powered by a portable battery, which provides electricity to the cabin. There is a gas stove for cooking and a woodstove is used to heat the cabin. The build started by burying some 4x4 posts in the ground, which we also made more solid by pouring in some post-crete around the base of the posts. We made the foundations from some 2x4 wood and then we used our milled up oak planks from our woods for the floorboards. Then we built the walls from more 2x4 and installed some fixed windows as well as a small folding window for ventilation. We built a folding table to help save space in the cabin, and then installed some shelving, lighting and the woodstove for heat. I spent the first night alone in it a few weeks ago and it was very peaceful and warm. Another wonderful episode of Mike and his father making something useful and attractive out of recycle and toss out material. So much skill possessed by these two. Would you not paint the exposed surfaces with wood preservative

These builder videos live on the edge informative and mesmerising. I found it fascinating and tranquil.
You keep making them, we'll keep watching them.
Where did you get that hand coffee grinder from

reply

I love this build! By the way, a cordless drill does wonders for that coffee grinder. Just grasp the little nub you slide the handle over in the chuck and hit the trigger. Done in less than half the time.

curious what you did to enclose the roof around the tree growing up thru the corner of the tree house during the build daylight was streaming in, so what did you do to finish the roof and make it leak proof
reply

I would have to seal it up tight. Too many gaps that will allow insects and rodents to destroy the place. Bugs are gross, bats are worse. Seal up those cracks!

Even though I followed along the build I really enjoyed this video as well. I hope you do this kind of stuff on your property with your regular camping videos. much

FYI, the two angles on the handle of the saw are a 90 and a 45 in relation to the spine of the saw, so you don't need a square.
