Hi Mike another great vid. Little tip: put the ridge poles together and step back therein leaving the ridge on its knees. Throw your leg poles in the middle. Now roll the canvas over the top, spread it out so as to ensure the canvas is not inside out. Turn your head torch on, crawl inside, grab a leg pole. Get your shoulder under a ridge corner and stand up. Insert the leg pole. Do the same with the other three legs. Your canvas will sag but it's up. Usually you would now complete the frame with the lower parallel floor poles and angles. The skirt goes on the outside and those large anker loops you spoke of, with the cool locking buckles go on the inside and the bottom parallel poles your missing slide through them and connect at the angles you're also missing to complete the rigidity of the frame. On the outside of your tent at each roof corner you should find the tie out points for the rope guide lines. Hope that's of use but be warned, when these things get wet. heavy isn't the word you're going to use. Taking it down is the opposite.

Wow that bought back memories. OCs orders. half circle round a ground map and rehearsals in the daylight . the bleeps stagging on the HF and the VHF nets in the FFR. the 9x9 in redlight at twilight, before heading off on a patrol. the smell of the cam nets. the boxes are the front are TUAMs. the FFRs we had were air portable and had two fuel tanks the switch from very distant memory was a slider under the driver seat. they would run the engines in the day to charge the generator the exhaust had a tube that remoted the fumes away.

I am envious. I would love to have one of my own. Canadian Army Veteran 34. 5 yrs RCEME. It would be great for hunting and fishing excursions. I don’t know if they had snorkel kit versions but it would be the finishing touch. Original that had kits usually have been in salt water as I was warned by a REME tech I worked with so would add one after the fact to avoid inheriting corrosion issues. You said there are two fuel tanks under the front seat Where are the batteries The ones I worked on had them under the front seats.

awesome video and as for your Land Rover the fix being a Mechanic sounds like you need to adjust the Timeing and to do that youll need a timing light and check where your TDC is then see how far out it is and should also help with Hard Starting Id also install a See threw Fuel filter just before the Carberator so you can start slowly catching all the Dabrees from the fuel tanks now to permently clean the fuel is to remove the fuel tansk thourly clean them or replace them with new ones Still a pretty cool Landi

A suggestion myself I would have put all the roof together like you did. Then only put two of the uprights on one side, so it’s leaning crooked into the ground and it’s been a lot easier to get the tarp on it. Go inside the tent with the legs or the upright, whatever you wanna call himand pick it up and put them on in much easier. where I come from, that is called a pintle hook hitch not a NATO they don’t might use pintle hook hitches, but the correct name for them is what I mentioned

Please, please, please, for the love of all former girl guides everywhere, roll your tent flaps under, not over! Lol.
I know you'd never leave a site that wasn't as absolutely close to how you found it as possible, but with all that space inside the tent, your load of bits and bobs outside it wouldn't let me sit down until I'd got the bed set up and the exterior things as squared away as possible. Different strokes for different folks.

Great video Mike. I'm not your average viewer I'm sure (middle aged woman who walks on crutches now but used to be a Beavers/Cubs assistant leader in her heyday) but I love your videos. I've found them my 'safe space' mentally whilst going through some tough times and I just wanted to thank you and also your dad for your continued amazing output. New shirts look great too so kudos to Mrs P!

Hahaha. I would not trust your vehicle to travel across Canada in its actual state, but it still looks like rugged vehicle! Perhaps, you can up-grade it and modify-modernize it with a top solar panel and an electric generator (for camera gears and/or a nice electric beer cooler and ambiance lighting and music system, fishing rods holders, bicycle or canoe stand, etc.

That actually is a command tent there really wouldn't be anybody sleeping in it. Maybe the CO or the first shirt would sleep in it. The radios would be mounted in the back of the vehicle and there would be desks and a situation board set up inside. Soldiers would sleep outside in their own little hooches. I can literally smell that tent as you're setting it up.

Funny, my Series 3 88 of a similar age is also Winston, had the name when I bought it. Because it’s grey (i. e. grey power, if you know you know. Also, I think all series LRs are air portable in the sense that they fold down to the height of the gunwales. Also, also, I’m guessing Mike was never an Army Cadet or he’d have put up that tent differently; )

After over 40 years of camping in Australia and SE Asia I'm always completely blown away how you can set up a tent that's not completely sealed up and not get eaten alive by mosquitoes, sand flies, tiger snakes, cobras, funnel web spiders and probably the worst of them all the council you can't camp there officers. Amazing!

Hi, I like your video lovely lightweight Land Rover. As a tip it’s easier to put the 9x9 tent up by leaving the legs off and positioning the canvas over the frame while it’s on the ground, then slot in the legs one at a time, it’s a lot easier that way if you’re on your own. Then reverse the process to take it down.

As a MFC (mortar fire controller) I had one of these (and a driver/operator) and given the year it’s entirely possible I could have used this very vehicle! (Unlikely, but probable) Although most of the time I was on shanks’ pony attached to a rifle company and my driver’ carried my spare radio batteries.

If you used a ball peen hammer or a hammer and punch, you could dent the poles so they have something to add friction against the joiners for the corners to hold them on. Obviously I wouldn't smack them with a hammer or whatever without having the joining pieces in the tubes or you might smash em too far lol

For all of you that do not want the hassle of this tent, or do not have a Land Rover military style where the tent needs to fit to, there are tents out there that pretty much do the same and are way easier to assemble. Not saying brands here, but I had one that was a good fit for my Ford Ranger.

To make removal and location of the end of your tape easier put a Tab on the end so even in the dark you can locate the end of the tape to remove it. Tab means unsticking the first bit on the roll and folding about 1cm over and sticking both sticky sides together. Top Tip from ex EOD

Oah and one more thing the Clicking sound when you turn the Key is Most likely a Bad Ground from the Battery Cable so id check to make sure its tight and have a good ground also over time corrosion will travel up the wire also making a bad ground and that should take care of your problem

And. the tent bag looks like it's for a 12x12, as its much bigger than the 9x9 version, which is usually canvas, not plastic, so stop mithering about struggling to vget the tent into the bag lol. I really should watch through to the end and makes notes, so I can get it all into one post!

I’ve noticed you’ve put the tent up inside out as well. The flap you rolled up should be on the inside, it’s designed to stop light showing and helps keep the insects out. The windows will work to keep the water out better when it’s round the right way. It’s a great tent!
