3 Days Building and Camping in Bushcraft Survival Shelter

3 Days Building and Camping in Bushcraft Survival Shelter

I spend 3 days building a bushcraft shelter and do the first solo night camping trip in it. I finish building the second lean to shelter, thatching with leaves and debris, and then build a raised bed from oak logs. Everything about this is so appealing. However, even though I have slept on bare earth with just a karrimat on many an occasion (in my youth, there is no way, on God's green earth, I could ever have slept on a bed of wooden poles, hessian sacks and a deerskin.
But, bravo!
I hope you weren't too knackered to be reasonable when you got back to the missus and kiddiewinkies. ;)

Feeling like the old camp. need a tower, wall, that sweet crane pot hanger, log walls, the pipe for air flow and a stump for that old tinder bag toss shot you useto do before starting a fire. Honestly this feels like we're going full circle. Honestly bro. I love it.
Ps: please bring back the tinder bag toss shot. I dont know why, but I loved that shot

Another great video. Love the overnight ones. Maybe put the asparagus on first next time Or pull the steak earlier to let it rest for five minutes or so (should be enough for thin cut. I’m no chef or expert and I’m sure it tasted great. Just offering a suggestion to make your experience even better.

For anyone seeking hessian sack, we sell it at jewsons nationwide. i'm a hobo type living on the fells in cumbria. if anyone has experience of living on steep fells drystoning i'm learning it. experimenting with finding clay on the scarrs. great video mike. cheers from the lakes

I knew it, I just knew it. another outdoor gourmet cooking show. It's NOT survival if you pack in steaks. M
Next video catch a fish, trap a rabbit, find eatable plants and roots, purify your water. If the word survival is in the title. well you get the picture

Nice video mate
I agree that a better sleeping mattress would make a lot of difference. Have you considered burning your wood on long lengths. I think it's a Swedish method for overnight and warms more of the shelter.
Keep up the good vids

Reckon you should build a wing on the other side to make it a 180 degree shelter. also, all those loose leaves would be perfect material for soft bedding. loving the bird noises in the background too. Cheers from Oz.

You're starting off a new basecamp in another part of your wood, aren't ya!

That didn't look like a bad tree that looks like a quite healthy tree that you first started sawing down. Please don't do that. I'm quite surprised to be fair I didn't think you would take a healthy part of a tree

The original shelter and the extension I have seen was the most simple way to build it without making it complicated. Even your grill and its rod design I liked it. Maybe you can show how you have done it.

Nice work, looks really good. I built a dead hedge in the garden for wildlife and I was thinking that it would make a great wall for a bushcraft shelter.
Have you ever made a shelter using that technique

For future adventures get some Lemon Balm and fill some cloth tea bags and boil them. the scent will repel mosquitos also the boiled leaves when rubbed on the skin will repel them as well.

If you cut on trees in our woods over here, you will get a big fine to pay. No matter what the tree.
But Im going to assume you dont live where I do based on your accent.

Bed looks a little lumpy. Try a couple 10mill trash bags full of those leftover leafs then your bed roll. Use zip ties or bread ties to close the bags. Much more comfortable.

Philadelphia tomorrow in the 80'f. Expect temps. If got to hike Wawa and resource sticks. Petedog enjoys this hike. Stopping at the sticks I tie the dog and work.

Not a critic, but just wondering, if there's a little wind out there, would it not fall apart with the leaves like this Anyways, thanx for the entertaining video!

Do you go home everyday Just wondering because you must have to fill your small water bottle up somewhere and don't hear any water running anywhere near

For your bed, If you use a bigger log and split it, you only need one and it wont roll.
Using a tarp to move leaves Isn't that called gardening
