To book your own Amtrak Adventure, head to Watch this video to see what it’s like to take an Amtrak Sleeper Train Across USA! We're about to cross the United States on a 4 Day Amtrak Sleeper Train from New York to Los Angeles! We started in New York City on the Lakeshore Limited. This route to Chicago traces its history to the New York Central Railroad, which started operating this route all the way back in 1897! We stayed in an older roomette on this leg, which included a crazy feature: An in room toilet! Even though we recommend you break your Amtrak Adventures up with overnight stays off the train, we booked our trip straight through. That meant we only have a four hour layover in the Windy City. So after a little bit of time exploring Chicago, we headed back to Union Station. We picked up the Southwest Chief where we stayed in another roomette! This train can track its heritage back to the old Super Chief line. That was the flagship train of the Acheson, Topeka and Santa Fe railway. It was once known as the train of the stars because it was the best way for Hollywood celebrities to get home from back east. In this video, we’ll show you some of the highlights and unforgettable moments that can only come from an Amtrak Adventure! We’ll also explain exactly what we paid for this adventure and how you can book one of your own! 0: 00 Introduction 1: 52 Lakeshore Limited 8: 57 Chicago 9: 41 Amtrak Vacations 11: 11 Southwest Chief 24: 46 What We Paid 25: 10 Bloopers Mississippi River Cruise Our Top Amtrak Travel Tips: All of our Train Videos: Get a personal video from me! I took the Lakeshoe Limited from Chicago to NYC last month. Had a toilet in my roomette and otherwise use the bathroom in the coach car. I think some Lakeshore Limited roomettes do not have the toilet, as it depends if it is a Viewliner I or Viewliner II car.
Had the plant-based meatballs and buttercake, and the crepes for breakfast. When boarding in Chicago (around 9: 30pm, they also offered a snack and beer/wine in the dining car. The sleeping car attendant and dining car staff were all great.
I look forward to someday riding on the Southwest Chief and/or the other trains to the west coast. The observation car looks very nice.

This is another one to try. So far I have only ridden the Coast Starlight. I have been on it several times! The scenery on this one is great as well. Amtrak needs to expand the food menu a bit. there was a bill in Congress to spruce up their menus, but it got voted down! Still, I'm excited to see what happens with their Request for Proposals for the next generation of Amtrak cars. It looked like they want the bedrooms to have much wider beds, for example (so a couple can fit better. Suzanne was beautiful as always

23 years ago I booked nj transit, amtrak, and via across the country, did this on my own, even the travel agent did not know, went from atlantic city to phila on nj transit, amtrak to; chicago, chicago on cal zephyr to sacramento, sacramento to vancouver bc on amtrak, vancouver to toronto on via rail, then via/amtrak to albany, then albany to nyc, nyc to phila, then nj transit back to atlantic city. 8 nights on the train and about; 22 days total.

How many times are you going to travel by this route by train Damn. you really don't know where you need to travel anymore huh
It's ridiculous to do a distance like this by train while you can take a plain. Not everyone has the health to sit 36 hours on a sit. So i find it a little annoying that you're telling me that i need to take a train instead of a plain while i'm not even physically able to travel for so long.

For Real travelers: I am 6'8 and there is no way in hell I would take the Roomette-even as a single traveler. Done Amtrak a couple times Va to Fla. And NOT for those that have claustrophobia. Go for the bigger rooms-and thank me later. Just remember how Wide a train really is. And the Hanger steak is either ok or Shoe Leather. All the meals are either from a Hot Box or microwave. Do NOT order the salmon-it will be dry.

I don’t know if anyone has said this already in a comment but if you find a new’ viewliner car - identifiable by the fake wood panelling in the corridor and the purple upholstery they have 2 toilets at the end of them because the newer roomettes do not have a toilet. I only had to walk one car on my silver star service in 2023 to find a private bathroom. The shower in that car was much better as well!

After working on SP/UP railroad for 40 years I wish my pass would still work. Being retired I love to travel via train instead of driving anymore. Too bad that this country decided to concentrate on interstate highways instead of train travel. It all depends the part of life you are in. Never be in a hurry on the train. The enjoyment is on the trip. Great way to meet people. Have fun.

I'm a train guy but. that is WAY too long to spend on one! Don't do that again! (Not that I think you would, but just in case you needed reinforcement) Well, at least you did get to see some not-so-ordinary places! [Greetings from Tucson. another Amtrak city. stop by sometime. we also have the largest airplane boneyard in the world, and a couple of runner-ups near-by, too! ]

I really enjoy your content. It's interesting as you get older, you're more willing to pay for the premium seats, bigger beds, business or first class seats on planes etc. You want to be comfortable were when you're younger you can tolerate being less comfortable. I know for lots of folks in their 50's and 60's, travel starts to be a hassle with crowds, packed planes, etc.

Thoroughly enjoyed this video.
I mentioned it a few years ago but I did a cross country Florida to California Amtrak trip as well.
Hollywood, FL to Wash DC in coach
DC to Chicago in coach
Chicago to LAX (on SW Chief in a roomette)
LAX to San Diego
Somehow managed minimal delays and even arrived in DC over an hour early.
Was an awesome trip.

I've been on a superliner and I think it would be mentioned that if you need anything, ask the attendant. They are great and from mentioning when the shower is free to helping you leave. And most of all showing immense restraint when a very annoying passenger was arguing, I would very likely have had a less professional reply to the remarks he was getting.

We desperately need more train service in the U. S. It's frustrating living in a car-dependent country where driving is often the only option. Meanwhile, Trump just cut $100 million a year from Amtrak by firing 450 employeeshow is that moving us forward We should be investing in modern, accessible rail systems, not gutting the little we already have.

Now try Rovos Rail Capetown to Pretoria. I did my tour guide practical at Capetown Station telling a group of potential tour guides about it way back in 2005. Another train you might want to travel on, not in the USA is the Desert express from Windhoek to Walfisbay. It stops in the middle of nowhere for a bush barbecue under the African night sky.

Great video! My husband and I traveled Amtrak round trip from Florida to Flagstaff to visit the Grand Canyon (15 days) and had so much fun! We did BOGO roomettes, too. We did as you suggested and had layovers in New York and Chicago. Trains we rode: Silver Meteor, Cardinal, Southwest Chief, and Lake Shore Limited. Fun, fun, fun in March 2024!

There's an easy way to remember the differences between Las Vegas Nevada and Las Vegas new mexico.
Las Vegas Nevada - lost wages. Because everyone there goes to lose their money when gambling.
Las Vegas New Mexico - Lost Vegas because it's so small everybody forgets about it and it's hard to find on the map.

Yes indeed, I believe in Amtrak to get you there in one swoop this time. I have so many Amtrak stories from derailments to snowed in issues, one time because of the issue they opened up the dining car and fed us all free! Amtrak is truly a gem and I appreciate that we still have that railway. Awesome video as usual!

There is no one - period - who covers an Amtrak trip/travel as well as you both do. Outstanding information and visuals. I have booked a bedroom on the California Zephyr in June, and your previous trips on the Zephyr was a major reason why. Thank you for setting the standard for travel content!

This was great. I just finished a cross county trip on Amtrak from Chicago to Seattle to the Bay Area and then back to the East Coast. It was amazing, and I cannot wait to do it again. Next time I should try the Southwest Chief. This video reflects my excellent experience on Amtrak.

Remember the previous Amtrak videos, where the sightseer lounge or the cafe was pretty much always full. Not anymore. Thanks Donald for killing all foreign tourism and giving more room for the Americans. I'm sure it's profitable to run those empty trains (with discount tickets.

Job, I blame you 100% for my addiction to the rail zone. I am a hardcore addict and cannot get enough of the rail zone.
And just earlier this year, I introduced my best friend to long distance Amtrak travel and I think she is also a hardcore rail zone addict now.
