I am not surprised about the high prices for food and everything else. Given its remote location and limited arable land to grow produce or raise cattle, dairy, and poultry, the Maldives must import these food staples from places like India, Sri Lanka, the UAE, and Malaysia. The question is, are the super high prices worth it The Maldives look stunning, but other resort locations offer over-the-water villas in Thailand, Fiji, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and closer to home, Mexico, and Jamaica. I haven't researched prices for these other resort locations, but I suspect most are more affordable than the Maldives. Again, the question is, do they match the beauty of the Maldives Of course, for most visitors to the Maldives price is not even a consideration and the exclusivity of the Maldives is something they are willing to pay a big premium for. It's a place where mere multimillionaires can rub shoulders with billionaires on the beach. The networking opportunities are worth the price of admission.

Thanks. Both you. We watch your videos regularly, my wife and I have been together for 43 years were coming up on our 40th year anniversary I have been. Bombarded with health problems makes it hard for me to wear jeans it’s not even in the cards for me I appreciate your candor and letting us know we are thinking since I live on the West Coast for the whole family to go to Hawaii which is something we’ve never collectively done I just don’t know if I could make. My particular medical. Doesn’t really allow me to fly very long at current. I am not able to fly from SeaTac down to John Wayne, Orange County and I have to spend all my time in isolation in a hotel so we’re looking for alternatives

I visited the U. S. once and stayed at a resort in North Carolina near a city called Greensboro. We were at Lake Brandt and it was spectacular! It reminded me of the best of Maldives and Tahiti. We were very impressed with the beautiful brown water which is unique to the region I'm told. The food was exotic but we tried something called hush puppets that were pretty good, even if the ingredients were foreign to us. We were offered hot dogs but declined as we think of dogs as more pets than food.

Jeb and Suzanne, I enjoyed the video a lot. You really did allow us viewers to appreciate what the experience was like from start to finish, while leaving out less interesting details. I always also appreciate that you share the costs and how you used points and miles to pay for part of it. Any interest in visiting Timor-Leste Seems like the forgotten child of off-beat travel destinations, but I bet it would make for an interesting travel and on-ground experience, as well as a good video.

cool video, very cool resort. still unless i am someone where money isn't an object, then i do not think it is worth it. value for money seems a bit absurd. but then again obviously there is a market there, for hotels to charge those prices.
personally i'd rather go someplace else and i can pay 500 USD a night more or less and i would still get a comparable and amazing experience, minus maybe the over water villa.
still thanks for sharing of the video and the transparency.

There is something wrong about being charged $4, 000/day and then being charged extra for a pizza. It's like buying a Rolls Royce and being charged extra for basic floor mats. I get if they want to charge extra for premium alcohol and maybe a few premium dinner dishes but for a mediocre pizza That's just wrong. If I'm spending $4, 000/day I do not expect to be nickle-and-dimed for snacks. As nice as it looks, St. Regis Maldives is off the bucket list.

There is so much to say here. First, Jeb has always said don't accumulate miles and points; use them as soon as you get them. Then, it seems Suzanne has matured during these videos and that's good and, um Jeb is looking a lot like Roger Whittaker; not really a bad thing. All in all, I'm glad you got to do this but those of us who don't have that kind of access; well, I'll just settle for the Centurion Club and First Class on Delta and be happy about it.

The price def has gone up. I stayed there last year for only 300k points for 5 nights.
We got the sunset ow villa, which was only a short swim away from the amazing drop-off reef for snorkeling. We saw sharks, rays there.
The food prices are insane, I remembered $40 miso soup, and easily $500/day even when breakfast was complementary.
We ended up spending the 6k which is pretty insane for 5 days considering the room is awarded

That was interesting. I stayed there for one full year, 1965, which cost me nothing and I was paid for it. It was very far from 5-star and I had to work, putting up radio sonde balloons three times a day, but spent many, many hours snorkelling from the fabulous beaches over the reefs. Socially it was limited, 500 men and one WVS woman. My flights there and back were a bit different, too, RAF DH Comets with rear-facing seats.

We stayed at JW Marriot for 5 days back in 2022 for our 10th wedding anniversary. We loved every bit of the journey all the way from Houston to Male, it was a long long journey using Singapore airlines but we were lucky to fly business class as i had saved well ahead for the journey. 5 days flew by faster like 5 hours, a lovely experience and we can't wait to go back again

I worked in the Maldives on the Tsunami reconstruction in 2007 and 2008 to remote islands. We provided seawater purification systems as part of the USAID programs that we worked along with projects in Sri Lanka. I was not staying at the resort islands so you had to like tuna and mosquitos. The local islands did not have the amenities of the resort islands.

That looks really nice and it's great you finally got to do it. however, $3K a night plus the crazy expensive food and drinks, plus how long it takes to get there. I'll just enjoy from my armchair. You should check out Little Palm Island in Florida - it looks beautiful and it's a whole lot closer (and they have a private yacht to take you there, so no sea plane.

Hi guys, Dom here from Manchester UK. I don't comment much on YT, but felt a little compelled to say - brilliant presenting, you are both made for the camera, so likeable! I am off to the Maldives with the missus and our 13 year old girl in 4 weeks, staying at Furaveri Resort and luckily its all-inclusive! Will check out more of your travel vids, thanks. xx

The problem with these private resorts is monopoly over transport. I should be able to take whatever boat to get to the island. Whereas they mandate the only way to get to their islands is by their boat/plane. Imagine if a hotel says you cannot drive your own car or a rental car to the hotel, and must only use their overpriced transportation.

Definitely a place I would love to visit, although I have visited the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean and that's a pretty amazing Island to see. Marriott Bonvoy membership is the way to save big money as far as i'm concerned. Thanks for a great video Jeb and Suzanne.
reply

I never stayed at a high resort for everyone there but compare to the other videos it lack the usually room detail or island detail. If I wanted to go to the saint regis I would need more details on how to be spending $20000 on a week not a one day itinerary
reply

All very nice and all that but after a couple of hours there I’d be bored stiff. I can think of far more interesting places to see with $20000. Even if I had the Bonvoy points I’d spend them somewhere that has a bit more to it than a tiny Maldivian island.

Real shame they haven't retro-fitted all the trip7s with the new business class seat, which isn't even that great but it's at the standard one would expect from an airline like Emirates. Can't believe they got away with those seats for so long.

Visiting The Maldives is a truly special experience and having been there on two occasions I would love to visit them again in the future. Great resorts amazing white beaches and a stunning array of marine wildlife. Keep it up!
