Flight Over Denali National Park

Flight Over Denali National Park

In this video, youll see some unbelievable views from our flight over Denali National Park. If you watch this video, youll join us for a flight over a completely cloudless Denali. Youll see the glaciers, mountains, and snowcapped peaks, not to mention the tundra, Denali Park Road, and so much more that make this one of the most remarkable flights around. Kantishna Air Taxi offers visitors to the remote Denali National Park the opportunity to take a so-called Flightseeing trip around the area to gain a new perspective on Denali National Park. But we booked a flight with them as a means to avoid the six-and-a-half hour bus ride out. Wed planned to fly from Kantishna, at the very back of Denali National Park out to the entrance. It was scheduled to be about 35 minutes, but the weather on our departure day was beyond perfect. And our pilot offered a thrilling ride up to the very edge of Denalis 20, 000+ feet

What a spectacular video. Thank you!
My most impressive journey in a small plane was in eastern Canada. We left Prince Edward Island, and flew over Newfoundland to the provincial capitol, St. John's. From the air, almost the only thing that the eye can see is the densest of forest. Aviation maps show rivers, highways and other major landmarks. Very few of those are visible through the trees. We could see the wispy fingers of fog heading inland along the southern coast. living in San Francisco, I can relate to fog encroaching onto the coast land. Our pilot registered his flight plan with Gander Airport, and they checked in with us every 20 minutes - 1/2 hour, just to see that all was well, and to give verbal instructions of any potential landing spots that we might need in an emergency. It was awe inspiring.
From an airliner, I once saw St. Elmo's Cross. That is the view of a rainbow, which is a full circle from the air, with the shadow of the aircraft in the middle of it. Our pilot in Newfoundland was a friend who was a pilot for United Airlines. He said that he has seen the round rainbows, but never with the cross. That was exciting.

You asked us to share one of our greatest moments. A great moment I had was when we took a flight seeing adventure on a trip in Alaska.
Our flight left from Talkeetna and our flight adventure took us around and up near the summit of Denali Mountain itself. We had made it to the top of Denali (20, 310 ft) and we were circling near one of the summits, as we flew by I saw something that I wasn't quite sure what it was. I looked closer as we flew by and to my amazement, there was a person sitting on the edge of a glacier. They were wearing a blue outfit that stuck out very well being in an area that was nothing but white snow & ice, with thousands of feet below him if he was to fall.
I will remember that moment for the rest of my life.

Hello Jeb, I am truly sorry that you have to suffer and endure such experiences like this, it would be so much easier slogging through an exciting routine of commuting to an eight hour day job with tepid sour coffee and greeting that joyful time clock twice daily, it really is better on the other side.
On a less serious note; in the early 1990s I visited Japan when in the Air Force and hired a local Cessna pilot from the Aero Club on the Air Force Base to fly me and two friends around Mt. Fuji, it was comparable to your Denali flight but couldnt go above 10, 000. Thank you for this newest episode.

That flight was epic, despite having been to Alaska I have never been to Denali even though my brother-in-law used to be a pilot there. For best views, there are actually two that come to mind. One was flying Horizon Airlines (Alaska) in a Fokker F27 from Seattle to Spokane and having dinner (yes dinner on a turboprop in the mid-1990's) and traveling over the Cascade Mountains, dinner, and a view (including a forest fire. The other was back in 2016 flying an Alaska red-eye from Seattle to Detroit and over the mid west seeing lighting storm after lighting storm light up the sky below us.

Idk what my favorite view was. Im kinda torn between four:
- Approaching Seattle in the summer, fantastic up-close views of Mt. Rainier
- Flying by some classic Arizona thunderheads at 30, 000 with the clouds still towering above us
- When our Alaska Air pilot got allowed to lower our elevation while over the Grand Canyon
- Going around multiple times at PHX trying to land with a microburst over the airport (and only the airport)

Last summer, I was flying from LAX to MCI, but we had to make an emergency landing at ICT due to us not having enough fuel to make it to MCI (wonder who forgot to fill up the plane) When we took off again, I saw a stunning view of El Dorado Lake and I think it was the most remarkable thing I've seen from the sky. That award would go to the NL coastline (YYZ-YDF) but since it was a nighttime flight, the runner-up gets this award.

The comment about being able to reach out and grab the snow off the mountains is so true! I recently had the chance to fly my first inaugural flight, Harbour Airs new route from Kelowna to Vancouver. It was my first time on a seaplane and first time flying something so small. Keeping below 10 thousand feet makes for some stunning views when you have to pass through the mountains!

What a great video and great videography and stunning views. no better way than to fly in single engine cessna. my first flight was on a single engine plane my dads class mate is a retired pilot and my best view from the skys was on commercial flight from Birmingham, AL to SEATAC and seeing Mount Rainer and it was evening it was very cool

My best view ive ever seen from a plane was ironically going over Alaska when i was a kid flying to Seoul from Portland. I was too young to know if I saw Denali or not but I remember looking at the flight path screen as we flew over. The mountain range there and all the snow i could see for miles and miles is an image ill never forget.

Great video Glad you had a nice day. I always love looking at the mountain. Our cabin is about 60 miles from there and there is a hill a few thousand feet from here that has spectacular views on nice days. I have been on a 737 returning from Deadhorse and we did a circle of the summit and we could even see climbers.

I think flying over Naples Italy at 5, 000 to 10, 000 feet would give a great view with the Bay of Naples with Vesuvius on one side and the city of Naples climbing the hill on the other side. The Bay of Naples has been called one of the great sites in the world. I have been there but haven't flown over it.

That contrail making a 180 was probably a fighter jet! Eielson AFB near Fairbanks hosts Red Flag Alaska much like the Red Flag at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. My brother was stationed at Eielson while he was in the Air Force. Beautiful flight! Thanks for sharing and always enjoy the content you put out!

The best views from a plane I have seen has to be, in no particular order now
1) CN Tower and low/over in Toronto on a 152
2) The gorges and terrain and land of western Canada over Alberta in a 737-variant unknown
3) Cuban countryside during a turbulent summer storm in a 737-800

Great video! Did the air tour to Denali and a glacier landing the end of May, 23. It was a blue sky, cloudless day. Theres nothing like it. Truly our most memorable view and a reminder that there are things larger than ourselves. It is good to be reminded of that now and then.

Hi Jeb,
First of all I am a big fan of this video and hoping to go to Alaska soon. Anyways, I know you previously tried Royal Air Marocs service from CMN-IAD on the boeing 787-8 and the service wasnt great. But since them, they really improved. They have recently bought

Hi Jeb. Fantastic video, and views to die for - sounds like you really struck it lucky with the weather that day. I think we've got some stunning scenery here in Scotland (Cairngorms; Ben Nevis etc, but those were breathtaking views of the snow covered mountains. Awesome.

Flying from Denver to Honolulu our 777 approach was from the north. It was a partly cloudy day, on a Sunday, and our pilot informed us we were flying the same approach path as elements of the Kaigun Kokutai on a simular day in December back in 1941.

The most remarkable thing Ive seen is fire works. I think it was about 7 years ago in USA, but I dont live in USA, I am from Australia. I think it we were departing Atlanta or something like that,
Edit: The departure was at night time

My best experience is when I was flying a plane in Kentucky and all you could see is horse farms on the ground. Also when I flew from bna to Tampa and all you could see on the ground is fireworks because it was the Fourth of July
reply

That was an OMG moment Jeb. Making this video a unique best. When, in the future you ask which was the best you made, this one will not be included as it is permanently up there already. along with that Attenborough impersonation.
reply

I don't like this video, I loved it.
As you said How incredible our planet is. You are showing this to the whole world with the clarity of visuals and intensity of voice. I am watching this from the other half of the world.

I used to be a flight attendant for BA, and back in 2017, on a flight from YVR-LHR, I experienced the Northern Lights as I was serving the pilots their meals. Without doubt the single greatest thing Ive seen from a plane

Amazing! We just got back from Alaska a week ago. On a commercial flight from Fairbanks to Anchorage we had similar weather. The pilot put us at around 20k and flew us down in between Denali and Foracker. Incredible views.
reply

Wow! What a video, amazing footage what a trip! Two incredible things for my own personal flights were incredible views of the Northern Lights and a meteor coming down in the Montreal area both on transatlantic flights.
reply

We were in a bush plane coming back from bus trip into Denali, when our pilot took us over the mud flats and luckily we saw a pod of Beluga whales. Icing on the flight with all those beautiful mountains and glaciers!
reply

I love the blooper where you point to the yellow road sign
Truly spectacular scenery. but I don't think I could handle such a small plane, even though it's perfect for there conditions

I visited Yosemite National Park and the Yosemite Valley in July of 2021 with family, and as we were flying back to ATL, I saw the Yosemite Valley from the air. It was a beautiful sight.
reply

Hey Jeb, you should do a video traveling to Jackson Hole Airport in Grand Teton National Park, its the only commercial airport in a national park and the views are stunning!

2 separate times flying from Houston to Quito, once saw lightning occurring cloud to cloud. Another time, seeing active volcanoes in a row night flying though Central America
reply

I actually did basically the same flight but through a different company on July 30th. Went through Denali Air, flew around the peak. Best flight I've ever been on hands down.
