For a 30-day free trial and one free audiobook go to or text Jeb to 500500 Several times each week, United Airlines makes an Island Hopper flight that stops at several islands throughout the Pacific. The flight has become world famous because of its unique nature. Three times each week, the Island Hopper flight connects Honolulu with Guam via Majuro, Kwajalein, Kosrae (twice per week, Pohnpei, and Chuuk. The Island Hopper flight ranks high on most #AvGeek bucket lists and in this video, we'll explore what it's like to fly on the Island Hopper, along with the history, and unique nature of the flight. The Island Hopper is unlike any other flight in the world and this video breaks it down so you can understand all of the unique quirks of it. Of course, as always, we'll take a look at the seat, service, entertainment, food, and lounge, but we'll also look deeper at the United Airlines Island Hopper

I am from Kiribati but went to school in Pohnpei, FSM, and then got a job afterwards. I then traveled this route many times within the 7 years of my time of work as an environmentalist. I am now in the US pursuing my other dream which is becoming an airline pilot. Would love to connect with you Jeb sometimes as I might ask some questions. Do you have an email address if that is ok with you? The video brings back much memories as these trips really inspired me to become a pilot too. Look forward to hearing from you: )

Those sprayers you saw in Hawaii is what we, in the Air Force, call a bird bath. It's used to remove salt deposits from aircraft that's flown over saltwater at low altitude for an extensive length of time.
I also spent the night in Kwaj a few weeks ago. It's a shame you couldn't leave the aircraft at all. I can honestly say it's one of the most beautiful but strangest places I've ever been to.

I dont get airlines. They lose my familys luggage a couple times in my life and put it on the wrong plane at least half a dozen times. They make a very important international flight an hour late because someone cant show up but sent their bag ahead?
And they wonder why customers are unhappy. How did they explain this one to the FAA?

I flew this flight back in the 70s on the 727 called Jeju while I was working the Ramp in Honolulu, as well as the weight / balance for Continental. When I became a Flight Dispatcher in Los Angeles in the early 80's, I diapatched the flights as well. Was also was the Dispatcher of record for flight 614 to Yap on November 21, 1980.

We book the island hopper because it is our only choice. We may not fly for the food, it would be nice to feel nourished throughout the duration of the flight. Now round trip tickets are over $2, 000 along with terrible service for economy passengers and horrible customer service with United (airport) staff, especially in Hawaii.

As a United Airlines employee, I'm humbled of your kind words for the great people I have the opportunity with which to work. I've flown this route many times and I always enjoy the amazing views. Thank you for your business and coverage of our fine people and this truly unique route.

very appealing indeed, however, keep in mind, that, when you put your foot into those waters, you are actively joining the food chain and you will not be the top dog there. Jeb, thank you very much! I do enjoy your views, comments and moving pictures.

I have things to say about the Japanese signage, about 3 or 4 of these islands were Japanese territory pre-WWII, so I theorise that the Japanese signage has something to do with Japanese occupation pre-WWII, is that the case Jeb Brooks?

I LOVE Pacific Island paradises. I've spent many times visiting Hawaii, Tahiti and the Cook Islands on various Boeing jets, it's my long-time travel joke that I'm secretly a Polynesian hiding inside a white man's physical body, LOL!

Sounds like both sets of pilots are Gram based. I'm surprised they wouldn't have an SFO or LAX-based set of pilots fly a route from the west coast to HNL, get a layover, and then fly to MAJ and get a layover and fly back.

This would be an amazing flight to take. Perhaps a flight you could review is Air France from Miami to French guiana via PAP, PTP & FDF. I'd love to see that one. BA also has some 5th freedom flights in the west indies.

If a passenger check-in their luggage then did not board, I'd want their damn bag hoofed off the plane asap, esp if the flight was carrying Military Personnel. bet that bag was checked for explosives in record time. :)

I dont really enjoy United BUT everything except the seat is cozy BUT it doesnt care about economy class how do I know
? Because I was coming from IAH to Hawaii a 8-7 hour flight and no entertainment screen

I've heard the Guam Based Flight Attendants provide a different vibe compared to the flight attendants on the mainland.
I've also heard similar with AA Based flight attendants in Bogota and Lima.

BTW you were on a direct flight, because you didn't change planes/flight numbers. You meant to compare it to a nonstop-which doesn't land along the way. Direct flights and nonstops are different.

Wonderful vid - too bad they can't still run 727s, being over two hours over water away from anything in a two engine 737 just would give me the heebeegeebees. Thanks for the vid sir.

I know this video is old but its just so calming I keep watching it over and over especially the music and beautiful views of the Pacific at 5: 12 What a beautiful takeoff from HNL!

I went from Chicago Ohair to Cleveland Hopkins Ohio KORD-KCLE on a B737-800

This flight is on my bucket list. If I was rich Id do it for sure right away. But im not rich, and never will be so all I can do is watch other people do it.

I almost hit my face on the seatback of the front seat when we landed in each island because the pilot applied really hard brake during landing.

40 years ago there used to be the jungle hop. It was a Pan Am 747. It's route was Nairobi, Lagos, Accra, Abidjan, Monrovia, Dakar, New York

Great video, thank you. I lived in Palau and Koror, Marshall Islands and had taken the Island Hopper a few times. What an experience.

Great video Jeb! I've flown United from Honolulu to Guam but not the UA 154 Island Hopper. It's now on my bucket list. Thanks!

Island time? I resent that. I work for a major carrier and we do still need to shoot for in time no matter where in the world
