Currently, the Qantas 787 flying from Perth to London is the third longest flight in the world. Clocking in at just over 17 hours, the flight from Perth to London links Australia and the United Kingdom in a way that's never been possible before. As an #AvGeek, this flight has been on my bucket list for a long time. I'm excited to share Qantas Dreamliner service from Perth to London with you! Like all ultra long-haul flying, Qantas 787 service from Perth to London is unique because it requires a lot of time in the seat. By watching this video, you'll get a sense of what it's like to fly this route without as much effort. Qantas Business Class is among the best out there. Especially on the Qantas Dreamliner. I'll share my experiences with the Qantas Business Class crew, the Qantas 787 seat, the Qantas Dreamliner Inflight Entertainment, and the Qantas Perth to London service. This video highlights the food, drinks, and experiences from this Qantas Perth to London flight. Let me know what you think by leaving a comment!

Nice video, my daughter recently took a 787 from Chicago to Rome, and I like the video so I know her experience on the 787 must have been cool. I do not like that the window dimming was controlled by the flight attendants, especially because it was a night flight because those prone to motion sickness need to peer out if an attack hits--looking at the horizon, even in the night sky, helps.
I have flown more than 500K miles as a business traveler and about 100K miles as a tourist, I prepared differently for my flights depending on whether they were business or pleasure. Until I built up air miles, I flew coach on business and always asked for a window seat in the rear of the aircraft, never an exit row seat, because I found free space for my carry on and could board and get settled first, I did that when I flew with my family too.
My last two flights were non-stops -- Phoenix to London on the classic 747-400 and I upgraded to premium economy, which was quite nice, more for the elbow than the leg room.
The entertainment was cool--I watched Star Wars - Rogue One (which replaced Empire Strikes Back as my favorite of the series which launched when I was in High School) going to London and again on the non-stop return one month later.
I will fly to Europe again just so I can fly on the 787, like my daughter has done--she returns home in six weeks.

wow, only 16 hrs from perth to heathrow. the first time i took my 4 year old daughter to the UK from Melbourne(30 yrs ago) it was a 28 hour flight (including stop over for 2 hrs approx. I loved the seat you was on, and it folded to a nice size bed, though if you was 6 feet and taller there could be a problem. the meals looked ok. I wouldnt say they were fancy seeing your paying Business class fees, i have watched other airlines and even in Business class, they had a table cloth and really delicious looking food. I would HATE to have my window closed for the entire flight, that is a def NO NO to me. i dont sleep much so even if its dark out, like you mentioned. at some stage you would see lights and ship/boat lights. safe travels

Great video about an interesting flight - I've wondered what the non-stop to Australia was like. I start to feel a bit restless after 10 hours in the air - I'm not sure how 17 hours would feel - particularly in economy or premium economy.
By the way, when I used to travel on business internationally routinely, I used to travel with an airline that provided a chauffeur driven car at each end of the flight and I thought it was wonderful and made the whole experience so much more relaxing. I was surprised that more airlines don't do it for all business and first class passengers.

I hope someone here can expand on this for me. Qantas CEO Alan Joyce posted this:
But at the moment because our A380s are taking a while to activate, the A330s are being used to help grow international operations and keep international airfares down because theyre the only aircraft that can fly that range out of Australia. And eventually as the A380s come back into operation, well be bringing those [330s] back into the domestic operation to upgrade the services between the east and the west.
How long does any aircraft activation take and why is it taking so long?

reply

I really dislike airlines forcing passengers to shut their window shades in daytime sections of the flight.
Air New Zealand staff will harass you if you so much as open it for 10 seconds.
If people want to sleep, they can wear eye masks. I can NEVER get to sleep on an aircraft, so lie flat beds do nothing for me.
I'm either fully awake watching movies, looking out the window, or dozing while listening to music.

reply

Great Video Jeb. I am a type of person who stays awake on a flight and would hate to be told that I could not have my light on I cannot see what the difference it makes to someone if you have your window blind open half the time these people wear an eye covering.
I would have expected a much better food menu that to me seems did you not have a choice of what you wanted.
Anyway looking forward to your next flight.

Australia is not a continent. Its the largest island in Southern Asia; then follows Papua/New Guinea. That what I was thought in school according to the British commonwealth secondary curriculum. When did that change; when the natives were completely pacified? Sometime in the 80s I heard it started to be referred to as an island-continent; now this? I guess that was the primer. This is how the facts are subtly warped. SMH.
reply

Only 4 years late, guessing they keep the blinds closed in the hope people go back to sleep so they won't be bothered by people looking out of the window, and wanting drinks etc.
Bearing in mind people in your cabin had eye masks, there was no excuse for anyone being kept 'awake' by the window blinds being open. ! (if someone had said anything, I would have suggested they close their eyes! that works as well): )

Why is every body so up tite about the food on airlines? What is the big deal as if you never ate before beleave me you pay for all you get if you spent twenty dollars you would be getting all you get on a airaplane! Better getting a meal before getting on a plane! Unless getting on the now non existing concord at $ 15ooo for a flight New York to London a meal is worth the cost! Remember you get what you pay for!
reply

Have you ever flown on American airlines? I did several years ago when i went to Mexico. I was in my 20s at the time. I'm a lot older now, about to turn 54. But I wasn't in first class. The flight was ok. The food was ok. I spent most of my time looking out the window, just amazed that i was on top of the clouds. A girl ahead of me was crying, scared. I didn't understand why she was scared. I thought it was fun!

Interesting review. With regard to service I think they believe business class passengers would have availed themselves of lounge facilities not available for economy etc. I am Australian and would like to fly Qantas. My brother has worked in US and also for UN (on contract only) and he and his family always flew on Qatar Airlines.
reply

I watch a lot of your videos and wasn't really impressed, the music at take off was really annoying and loud, the volume went up and down lots of times, we really didn't get to see much of the outside or inside of the plane and well the price, meal and service comparison between class would be an interesting fact to know.
reply

Blacking out the windows for practically the whole flight was nonsense. There was no sunlight to break through and disturb anyone's sleep and really no negative consequences from allowing them to be open. Sounds like they wanted passengers to sleep so they wouldn't disturb the flight attendants.

I'm heading to Perth with Qantas but in Premium Economy (the budget wouldn't stretch to business class. I'll try to remember to let you know how that was however, this video explains why it's almost 4 time the price of standard economy with all the added extras. I hope you enjoyed London.
reply

I think one of the reasons the flight attendants dimmed the windows the whole way was to prevent too much flashing from the strobe or beacon lights, but thats a very small amount of light and surely its better to just leave them undimmed so that people can see whats going
reply

The crew were warm and friendly and fun you say? Of course the were, theyre Australian. Thats what Australians are like. Other airlines (particularly Lufthansa whose staff are often bad tempered, grumpy and curt) should send there staff to train at Qantas.
reply

I know this is an older video and this question may never get seen but as I work my way (not in chronological order) I notice that you (Jeb) are often near the wing. Is this just a matter of placement of seating or do you prefer to be nearer to the wing?
reply

I'm not a fan of the 787 for the reason that the FA can control the window shades. For someone who enjoys looking out the window, this is the wrong aircraft. On 90% of all my 787 flights, the FA have locked the window shades. :(

9: 24 It's more that Australia's coffee culture is, well, cultured. Even the cheapest coffee for $1 at a 7 Eleven is from a proper espresso machine that will freshly grind beans for you.
reply

Hi Jeb, Love your travel videos. I am planning to go to Australia for my 65th birthday. The idea of not being able to look out the window would be a real disappointment in my book.
reply

I'm planning to do the Project Sunrise non stop London to Sydney when it launches in 2025. Also, I always take my own headphones which are way better than anything an airline can offer.

I loved this video. I'm from Perth and it was so nice to see my city in your videos. I hope you had time to explore. It's such a pretty city with so much to see and taste and enjoy.
reply

ID rather have a slightly less luxurious time during my flight, ie no pillow mist, that have a less than top notch crew in the flight deck as quantas has, the best bar none.

Nice see some positive comments about QANTAS. QANTAS bashing seems to have a become our national sport. It's one of the best airlines in the world and a national asset.
reply

Jeb, I think you have the best job in the world! I too am a aviation professional. Live in Athens Ga. We just won the National Football College Championship. Go Dawgs.
reply

This guy did. Complain quite a bit. About Windows. amenities. cannot compare. This flight to emirates. Two different airlines. Thought the flught was excellent.

Qantas really needs to get better mood lighting it is barely noticeable or Mabye they already do have better mood lighting but they never use it.
reply

I wish you would share the cost of each trip so that viewers could get a ballpark idea of affordability. Otherwise I enjoy the format and insight.
reply

I absolutely need to be able to look outside, regardless of darkness. I will never fly QANTAS if that forced closed window policy is fleet wide.
reply

I'd of watched Airplane on an airplane since I have zero issues with falling asleep at night while watching Nightmare on Elm Street. lol
