Food is one of the best reasons to take a Japanese train trip! When we were visiting Tokyo, my wife and I decided to take a short trip for a night to Hakone, a well known mountainous area, home to hot springs and Japanese traditional inns. We took the train from Shinjuku in Tokyo straight to Hakone-Yumoto Station within the town. When you take a train in Japan, you are encouraged to eat, and so we stocked up on a few essentials before boarding. Train trip rice - 2, 050 JPY ($17. 96) per person Fish bento - 880 JPY ($7. 71) Beef bento - 1, 150 JPY ($10. 08) Kansai sushi - 950 JPY ($8. 32) Katsu rice burger - 223 JPY ($1. 95) Don't forget to eat some awesome Japanese food when you take a train in Japan

The fish is probably pickled because it has to sit on the shelf for awhile and that kind of keeps botulism from setting in. Lolol. Japan has believe it or not a low incidence of food poisoning believe it or not. But but but there is always a BUT. sometimes there are parasites that invade due to their culture of eating RAW raw raw raw raw fish and meat. How do i know this? For a time i worked as a clinical data gatherer for one of the biggest disease control investigative agencies in the US. You can guess who that is.

Hey mark. I-m a fan of your food trip, and I-m always amazed by the fact that your guess/first impression is accurate, like when you said the beef might be the tongue and it-s actually tongue. I-m Japanese and i know everything you ate. The fish is called shimesaba. You can look up what it is, but again, your description of the taste of the bento is super accurate. I hope I can join your Japanese food journey.

5: 34 this caption might be wrong because it's -oshi zushi (literally pressed sushi. - AFAIK, the word -Kansai zushi- is used in terms of comparison with -Edomae-zushi (Eastern style)- and -Kansai-zushi (Western style. -
8: 51 10: 05 As I researched, Ekiben is cooked assuming cold condition, and its container is not microwavable. So when you eat cold Ekiben, that's what manufacturers intended!

Ekiben also known as Station Bento (eki = station. Different stations have their own bento style / specialty. Do you know that train enthusiasts in Japan collects bento boxes due to their unique designs? -

You were probably looking for vending machines that serve hot bentos. That ain-t gonna happen at train stations. For the reason that cold bentos at sold is so that the smell won-t disturb other passengers.

0: 28 1: 29 I was just wondering why he mentions 'vending machine. ' Where did he get that information from? Ekiben is usually sold at the station or in the station platform, or even in the train.
