Can I add:
6) Don't EVER say Catalan is a 'dialect'. That's like saying Italian or Portuguese are dialects. Catalans might get seriously annoyed if you downgrade their language to the level of a 'dialect'. Learning a few words of Catalan (even if it's just 'hello' or 'thank you') will however get you a few smiles.
7) Don't get involved in political debate in Catalonia re local issues. They're their issues not yours.
8) Don't assume Catalonia is just limited to Barcelona. Vic and Girona (to name but two) are interesting places and easily reached by train and are a welcome break from the hassle of Barcelona.
Must agree re eating on Las Ramblas. It's like eating on Times Square or the rue des Bouchers in Brussels. Locals wouldn't eat there and neither should you.

REAL STORY NO CAP: Flew into Barcelona and of course we first went to our Airbnb. But it wasnt ready yet. So we decided to go to cafe with all of our luggage. Dumb idea. But what shouldve we done. The people at the cafe said if we have it it will be more secure against theifs They put our stuff in the back and stole a laptop and all of our passports. We had to go to the agency and do paperwork to even get a passport back into the country. We though the cafe was working for the streets or mafia whatever. In conclusion: Never let your guard down. This was February 2019 btw.

I'm from Barcelona. He is right on #1 don't eat at las Ramblas. But there are plenty of choices-Restaurants to eat. Just get away from the tourist areas, and they open early and late hours. Walk around enjoy yourself or buy a metro card that is around 11. 35 euros (10 trips with connections. Traveling on a budget helps even if you are a spender sometimes. A regular meal two courses wine and dessert 13. 00 euros and they bring plenty of bread to complement it. Anyhow, come to Barcelona we will be glad to see you smiling.

You're so wrong about Barcelona. I've been living in Barcelona for 4 years and first: The pick pocket argument is exaggerated, no different to any other big Europe, city. Paris is worst. Second: This thing you have said in a couple of videos about the Barcelona police is incredibly irresponsible and wrong. Third: Have you seen the hundreds of restaurants, tapa bars, cervercerias, fast foods, coffee shops etc that open at 7-8 am? I just realized we here on Barcelona do not eat until 1pm. What an ignorant argument.

Just was in Barcelona - I would not fully agree on eating on Las Ramblas. There were spots that were outrageously priced but there was a couple of spots that are really well priced and had value. It was gorgeous and yes almost had my cell phone jacked but I wouldnt say dont do but be more mindful - between my wife and I we got 3 dinners on Las Ramblas and they were 50 Euro each but what did us in there is I got a litre of beer and she got a litre of cava sangria and that was nearly half the bill

The Dont's of Barcelona: Just dont come here. It's a overpriced shithole. Dont spend your hard earned money on making pictures of masonic buildings, satanic temples and eating bad food inthis city while looking at all the signs that tell its a feminist city and real man are not welcome. I live here, only thing people come here is for the buildings that where designed by zombies. Stay safe.

Disagree about breakfast Mark. There were like 2 coffee shops and 3-4 bakeries within a half mile of where we was staying. Baked goods in Barcelona were awesome.
Agreed about dinner though. I went to a Romanian restaurant that we knew would be busy so we showed up at 8, when they opened. We were the only ones there until about 9. We never found lunch to be a problem though.

also a big dont as someone who went a school trip and witnessed a lot of this- if you are staying in the gothic neighborhood understand that you will probably have to carry your luggage to the hotel. You can get close w taxis but my group still had to walk 10-15 minutes with our bags so if you are staying there make sure you dont overpack

Next time I go to Europe or any part of the world I will buy and put on a money belt because it is safe and you have your valuables and money safe from pickpockets who commit these awful crimes! Just put it around your waist underneath your pants and it is safer than having your wallet in your pockets with you!

you can get breakfast at bakeries or cafeterias p early just maybe not a sit down breakfast place like the states. Still very good and one of the places I went to served some of the best breakfast for relatively cheap prices.
