As amazing as television has made dark rides, I must vehemently state my preference for the original, which sadly no longer exists. Portions of the original can still be seen in D-Park, but large sections of the org were finally corrupted by time and greed.
I have been privileged on several occasions to have been able to experience the org in the best possible light. Not only was I the only person in my boat, there was no one in the boat ahead, or behind mine (a nice perk of growing up in Southern California in the 60s was spending a LOT of time at the park.
Why is it the GOAT
1. Let's start with the fact that all of this (new ride versions and movies included) wouldn't exist except for Walt's amazing vision.
2. The imagineering team worked well outside the box in inventing new technologies to achieve that vision. The new stuff just needed to wait long enough for TVs to get big enough to be useful as set pieces. No further imagineering required.
3. I suspect (though I have no research or proof to back it up) more people have experienced the original than all of the subsequent iterations combined (though that record will surely fall at some point.
4. It was RAW! No political correctness, just rollicking pirates on a rampage (a bit like this rant.

This is an incredible ride, but it has about as much in common with the other Pirates rides as Mystic Manor does with the other Haunted Mansions - it's doing something totally different. Shanghai Pirates has essentially taken a tightly-paced modern (post-Indy) dark ride and disguised it as a traditional boat ride, and adapted the movies instead of the existing ride. This may be way more impressive, but I don't think any attraction will ever touch Disneyland's original in terms of sheer atmosphere.

Definitely is the best version. I remember watching a ride through a long time ago, after my cousin told me about it, and how it actually had characters from the Movie. IIRC, this came before Disneyland including the bad Johnny Depp amimatronic in their Pirates ride.

Doesn't do a thing for me. It's over reliant on screen projections and much less Audio-Animatronics than it's counterparts in other Disney parks. The original Disneyland in Anaheim and Disneyland Paris have the best versions of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Such a great dark ride, my only critique is how bright the screens are on the battling boat scene but i figure it looks a little more realistic in person. Would love to visit some day

Attractions like this is what WDW Orlando needs, not 1. 5B investments on Epic Games. Lately, all of Disney is mismanaged, proof is in their financial earnings.

I think they should bring this new version to Disney World. The rides at WDW need upgrades and this type of stuff is what It really needs.

original Disneyland pirates will always be my favorite but after the changes to original design this version is stiff competition
