Bodybuilders try the US Army Fitness Test without practice leon cruz: You guys are so dramatic, the APFT is probably the easiest measurement of human endurance ever made. Now what makes it hard is getting the dog shit smoked out of you day in and out 6 days a week, by either rucking, running 3+ miles a day, conducting of PT, or further physical training like conducting battle drills in the field or a combination of all the above with close to no room for recovery. Unlike civilians that schedule their workouts properly, soldiers are expected to perform at all times to maximum capacity because war can be anytime. Despite all the above their are your IT guys or other jobs that are behind a desk or away from the fight where most of its occupants pass with below average scores and scrape on by. If one of my guys who weighs 260 lbs with 20% body can successfully run 2 miles without passing out like you, you should be setting the example. Click baiting at its finest.

How does the US Army conduct the test? Finds a spot and does it. and I mean just any spot and does it. Dusty track? You're lucky that you're not running on gravel. oh yeah, if nothing available army does run on gravel. Oh. elevation? Marines do have different scales. Army. shut up and run. by arguing you're wasting oxygen that you could be using for the run. Yeah, as I remember there are some regs that regulate the conditions in which APFT can be taken, but it is just ignored for most of it. I remember taking an APFT for promotion on deployment in Afghanistan. it was dusty, the running course was on gravel and it was in higher elevation. Oh. the moron who measured the distance was a retard, so we ran 2. 2 miles. While I finished with a good 1 minute to spare (which was surprising, since I measured myself a week prior and had 3 minutes to spare, but two other fellas failed by 10-30 seconds.

So, retired Army combat chopper pilot here (retired a CW4, if you know what that is. thought it interesting you guys did this. Now, I know you're aware of max scores and all that, but were you guys aware there was a contingent of the Army (myself included) who worked hard to max each section? Why, you ask? Because if you got a 300 on the APFT, most unit commanders allowed you to do PT on your own, and that means you no longer had to get up at 0500 or 0530 to make 0600 PT, and you didn't have to show up in your thermals and sweats to run 2 or 3 miles in freezing temperatures, often well below freezing. Of course, also of note is that by the time you were a senior warrant (CW3, CW4, or CW5, your unit training officer would just assign you a score. Morning coffee (or a Coke, depending on the guy) is much more important to a senior warrant than physical fitness. ;)

It's nice to see your outside perspective on the test. Interests me bc I have done it near 50 times so l am indoctrinated. Biggest point of interest from my perspective is that the situps are counted in the down position, and to rest (not show continuous effort- on your high speed video playback i saw more than one full breath in the down position) causes termination (no further situps count) so I think you both got less than 30 sit ups. Nice job on the press ups and run. though you gotta watch how far your feet are apart on the press ups. An interesting thing happens in most Army units, where the test becomes a kind of street cred since you gotta get a certain score to earn promotion points and awards. Will be sad to see it go next year because it really is a no nonsense test that very few can do very well on all three events. Cheers

Apft sit ups really has a strategy to it. You instinctively want to do sit ups to do a work out, but you really just need to release yourself once you're at the top and flop to the ground, and your shoulders need only touch the ground, not your hands. If you're holding yourself going down you fatigue yourself. The APFT isn't a workout, its a test so just go crazy with them and bang them out. Took me a while to get a good strategy down for it. You should also consider the elevation when you're doing the 2 mile run. Higher up you are, the worse it is. Push ups you must also consider that your feet must not exceed 12in apart, mike was very close to that. You're also permitted to slide your hands around to utilize different parts of your arms so long as they don't leave the ground. I respect your efforts, it was enjoyable to watch

I've been in the Army for 13 years and I can usually max the test (my run has been slipping lately though. First off just wanted to say great job guys, don't listen to pissants on here who have never done a pushup but just talk shit. As some have mentioned you guys are incredibly strong but as you saw the Army tests are more geared towards endurance. Also I think you guys made the test a little bit harder for yourself by doing very full extensions and slow reps. Usually to max it you have to crank out as much as you can in a burst. You guys did much better form than most Soldiers. Y'all would easily get higher scores when you saw how normal soldiers take the test. I also would love to see you do the new Army ACFT, with several interesting events (and it has deadlifts which I'm sure you'd destroy. Cheers.

You'd have both bee disqualified during each event for form/resting improperly. We also didn't do 10 minute breaks. We formed up and marched half a mile to the running track. No headphones/music on the run. Put sleeved shirts on. I don't care how hot you get. Jeez. It's all the little things that add up to make it so shitty. The bodybuilder thing was super apparent when I went to fire academy as the biggest strongest guys would gas out on the stairs, chopping roof, and pulling hose over distance. We literally had females with more heart/cardio outperforming dudes looking more/less like this. You wanna throw a scared kid on your shoulder and bring them back out? Well first you gotta get up there big feller.

There is a new fitness test for the army that focuses more on overall exhaustion than this test. 6 events with basically no rest time between events and it tests muscular strength and endurance plus distance running speed and sprinting speed. So far only two soldiers have been able to max the the new test and both were special forcesCurrently 50-60% of the army will fail their MOS standard (when including national guard and the reserves)However they have an entire year to train for it before it becomes a standard so plenty of time

new army ACFT starts to replace the PFT this month and the transition is supposed to be complete by october next year. you need a 10lb medicine ball, 90lb sled, 2 40lb kettle bells, 60lb trap bar for deadlifts, pullup bar for leg tucks, same track for 2 miler. you're supposed to have all that equipment in one place so you do all 6 events in under 50 minutes. i'm skeptical that test is even going to be implemented army-wide with all that equipment and the special training needed to prepare for those events.

Sorry to tell you but both of you guys broke the rules on push-up. That is, you may sag in the middle or flex your back. When flexing your back, you may bend your knees, but not to such an extent that you are supporting most of your body weight with your legs. Than during sit-up you both broke this rule. The up position is the only authorized rest position. If you stop and rest in the down (starting) position, the event will be terminated. Good job on the run and your scores are only around 200.
