Inside the bitterballen is, at least 50 grams of butter mixt with 60 grams of flour, there is around 3/4 dl water with bouillon, and some meat of choice, it is actually the same thing as ragout accept the amount of dl water. Kroket is the same recipe, it is only larger than teh bitterbal

You don't know the feeling of burning your freakin' mouth on bitterballen. How to burn your mouth on bitterballen. 1. Get a bitterbal. 2. Eat it. 3. Realize it's way too hot and spit it out. 4. After waiting for 10 seconds try again. 5. Repeat.

mashing everything definitely is a dutch thing. The so called stampot is a name for tons of dishes all including mashed potatoes with mashed vegetables and a piece of meat. The one you had is called Boerenkool, named after the vegetable.

I think I recognize this Albert Heijn. If I'm not mistaken this one is in The Hague at shopping center In De Bogaard in Rijswijk. I go there all the time, well, not to shop at Albert Heijn, but to browse through the other shops.

Matt, you only think butter on poffertjes is weird is because you're used to butter being salted. In the Netherlands and large parts of Europe in general, butter is not salted. So then it isn't as weird. Just saying. ;)

Huismerk poffertjes en hagelslag, en een goede moorkop (als toerist) eet je bij de bakker. Deze gespierde aandachtstrekker kan wel wat manieren bijgeleerd worden, waarbij de rest zich lichtelijk irriteren.
