You may be looking to build a bigger chest but find that your chest workouts are limited by the size of the dumbbells that you have access to at home. Not to worry. With the Rapid 10 technique I show you in this video, you can build a big muscular chest even without the typical heavy dumbbells that you thought were a requirement in your chest workout. The reason behind this boils down to the concept of muscle overload. There are so many ways in a given chest workout to overload the chest muscles. It doesn't always have to be with heavier and heavier weights. In fact, it shouldn't always be with just heavier weights. Instead, in order to build your chest you need to vary the tempo of your sets in your chest workouts and also incorporate some pre-exhaust techniques. The Rapid 10 is just one of those examples. By incorporating this lifting technique into your next chest workout you will find that even weights that you thought might be too light to build your chest muscles with. can feel much heavier! Try this technique out in your next chest work out and then head over to and get the complete ATHLEAN-X training system to learn more ways to incorporate muscle building tips and techniques into not just your chest workouts but all of your workouts!

That is really cool! I have not seen this technique before. For those of us who've have serious injuries (ie. back surgery, lifting heaving weights is often out of the question. So, what do WE do to keep growing as best as we can? I often use a slow negatives and high reps (16-32) which actually does work. But, I like this idea and will give it a whirl on the next workout.

good technique of pre exhausting the muscles. but you have to still fall within the most effective window of time under tension in order to stimulate myofibrillar growth? In other words, reaching failure w 40lbs is not the same stimuli as reaching failure w 90lbs DB's. The indirect intensity to complete reps w 90lbs is far greater overall than pre exhausted pecs w 40lbs.

thanks jeff. this will really help me, i have two 40 lbs dumbbells and i havent had the time to buy more or go past those, college has me really busy, i try to work out when i can while getting all the study time i can, thanks alot man,

You can preexhaust as much as you want but if you only use 20 lb dumbbells do you really think you're ever going to be able to just jump from using 20s to 50s? Of course not, you need to gradually increase the weight and work your way up to 50.

He didn't say to use this technique to get strong - he said it was a method of overload (perfect for those situations when you find yourself with lower than ideal dumbbell weights. But thanks for pointing out the obvious!

-muppet831 why are you giving me the explanation, only a fool wouldn't know that about their own body. I was simply telling him to be more specific when he is asking somebody a question, get over yourself.

I'm thinking of taking the Athlean-X course, but the meals might be a problem. I might not be able to get a lot of the foods that are set up in the plan. What would you recommend me to do?
