Nice tutorial as usual, very informative, however I would call it something else instead of infrared, using a picture from a camera that hasnt been converted to capture the infrared wavelengths just isnt infrared, you cant invent information that hasnt been captured by the sensor, in infrared green leaves become white, the sky becomes black, in infrared you are recording the variation in temperature between different objects, the hotter the object is the lighter it appears; then there are cameras that are kind of partially converted, that allows near infrared and in some cases even part of the visible spectrum to various degrees, and this are the pictures in which you find funky colours, but again it is a mix of selected colours in the visible spectrum and the relative temperatures in the scene captured; in a normal picture luminosity is related to the amount of black/grey/white in the colours, in infrared luminosity hasnt got anything to do with colour, so an object painted in black will look white if at 1000 degrees Celsius or black if at minus 10 Celsius.
Again, the tutorial is very interesting and as usual it gives food for thoughts, more concepts to better understand photoshop and how to manipulate colours, but I thought a bit more of insight would help in clarifying that there isnt a program that can substitute or fake infrared photography, all the cameras have a filter on the sensor that blocks the infrared wavelengths, and as a matter of fact one that blocks the UV spectrum, and therefore it is impossible, the same as in when a picture is underexposed, the data hasnt been captured.

Got to learn something new and a lot creative. Thank you PiXimperfect. I'd even like to take it a step ahead by using the Orton Effect. I'm very much eager to learn the Orton Effect from you, it'll be of much fun and informative.

Unmesh, for the last step (and Yes, I know it doesn't create the grain effect) would it have been an option to convert the Image Mode from 8bits to 16bits and then back? I know that also get's rid of banding.

I was always having my own technique for this effect, now this is not bad either, it's more stractured than playing around, but still it's not as realistic as it could be (my opinion)

IR doesn't really look like that! watch some videos of (rare) IR camera filming in a plane. IR is totally incomprehensible to use mere humans: ) another stellar video BTW!

Hey. I wonder if you could teach us how to create spatial objects with opal gradient effect. That would be amazing: )

my guess is that you duplicate the layer, invert it and set it to color blend mode. i wonder if i'm wrong
