Thanks for encouraging people to think about this sort of thing. However, I disagree with 5 choices you made in this video:
1) I'd use Unsharp Mask instead of High Pass, it applies a high pass filter internally with built-in amount and threshold sliders (Photoshop wasn't missing that amount slider after all. The threshold slider should handle many of the cases of selective sharpening that you mention, reducing the need for hand painting layer masks. If you want to avoid adding inverse colors at edges you can set the blend mode of the filter to Luminosity.
2) You dismiss sharpening the image directly in favor of stacking high pass filters, but you can stack sharpened copies of images just as easily using layer masks.
3) If you are using High Pass you should use the Linear Light blend mode and not Overlay.
4) You mention using Opacity to decrease the effect of the high pass, which is fine if using the Overlay blend mode but Fill should generally be preferred for reducing the effect of a layer as it works much better for any of the Dodge/Burn modes as well as some of the more exotic ones (Hard Mix I'm looking at you. This doesn't make a difference 95% of the time, but it's a pet peeve of mine that folks default to using Opacity instead of Fill.
5) You desaturate the image instead of using black & white, which doesn't make a big difference when using high pass but it might encourage others to think of desaturate as the first option for removing color while black & white is the far superior option.
If you use Unsharp Mask on an image with Amount set to 200% and Threshold set to 0 it'll give you the exact same results as blending a High Pass with the same Radius in the Linear Light blend mode.

I recently went to Gir Sanctuary Gujarat with very limited equipment forcing me to use a greater ISO than I would use. I got some lovely photos but all of them though looking good have too much noise, strong noise which was compounded by another problem shooting jpg. I gave my Camera to Nikon to service and they did a wonderful job including resetting all my settings so by the time I realized what I was doing I was shooting Jpgs. Is there a solution somewhere. Can you do a tut on it. Or how to use something like Topaz denoise properly. Just a request. Sharpening solved now noise. Thank you ever so much.

Hi, can i change the order of the layers permanently for all the projects that I'm going to create? Example:
If I define a layer as a background and then create other layers, the sequence is like, layer 3 at the top followed by layer 2, layer 1 and background is the last one, i need to make the background first at the top followed by layers 1, 2 and 3? That seems more logical and easy to work.
looks like photoshop create the layers from the bottom to up, can i change it, how?
Thank you.

Unmesh Dinda is the consummate Photoshop tutor. Engaging, easy to understand, gets the goods across without any fuss yet lets you understand the reasons for what he's doing. The production values and set-up of his demonstrations make everything super clear as well and the narration and visuals work together perfectly. This is close to genius just for the presentation but the information conveyed is unsurpassed as well whether it's basic or for the more advanced user.

Doesn't work with my PS6 because Brightness/Contrast DOESN'T get highlighted. However Ive gone down to 'Shadows/Highlights' which DOES! So I tweak the midtones contrast slider on that to increase or decrease the sharpening and it works pretty much the same.
As for the car horns. India wouldn't be India without them. So keep 'em in as Indian authenticity for us westerners! Namaste.

Hi Unmesh, thanks very much for the great tutorials. After watching this I created my own action for your High Pass 'sharpening with control'. It works fine, but selecting 'Legacy' in the brightness and contrast doesn't record in the action. I notice it didn't on yours either. Is there a way of including the Legacy selection in the action playback? Many thanks

I'd like to see some Videos that shift gears a bit to COLORING/DRAWING -- how to make clean lines, how to layer/mask, etc, for colors, and how to create realistic coloring/shadows, in Photoshop. Think comic artists or manga, or Animators generating stills. THANK YOU. You're the best.

Piximperfect is the best source for photoshop tutorials. I've been watching many tutorials almost 4/week since 2013, this guy is simply the best and whats more amazing is watching him grow and develop his teaching and presentation techniques. Thank you

Hey. Awesome videos. Could you make a video with explanation of Flow and Opacity settings of the Brush? I think I understand them, but yet, I'm unable to apply them when I need to paint. I always get unrealistic results. Thanks.

Using the action is nice. But for learning, I will do the steps for awhile until the method sticks in my mind. The knowledge of how it works may be useful later on another topic. Thank you again for your work.

Hi Unmesh, you make interesting and good workshops! Just a short question: when I download a sharpening action where and how should I implement it to use?

I noticed that at time 4: 46 you said to make sure that Use Legacy was checked. But in the action at 6: 00 it wasn't checked. Did I miss something?
