Why You Should Wait To Build A New PC!

Is right now the best time to build a new PC? Gordon doesn't think so, and provides 5 reasons why you might want to wait until this fall to buy new parts for a PC build. liaminwales: If you can wait, when next gen is here you get the option of this gen on sale or next gen. We are in a 2 year cycle today, buying at the end of a gen (unless it's a nice sale) is going to hurt when you see the next gen drop. Just think how people who picked up RTX 3080's a few weeks before the prices dropped feel?
If you picked up a GPU a few weeks back before the prices drooped not long before the next gen comes out, your going to feel pain seeing it's used price if you want to upgrade next gen.

I'm convinced...I'm still rocking my Skylake and GTX 1070 and was going to upgrade this year, but I'm in no hurry. I already had my eye on Gordon's 5 reasons (except ATX 3.0 PSu...didn't know about that...just icing on the cake, I suppose). Coming from Skylake and a few graphics gen behind, I'm expecting to be able to play nearly all my games at 1440p (120fps) at max with a bit of headroom with the upgrade. Also, depending on the VRs headset development, I may finally decide to dip into VR gaming.

Always is going to come sometime better and faster, especially now with releases every year. There's no reason to wait for that because i would keep waiting forever. Those are reasons to wait but no one should really wait for something better coming because it's always going to come sometime better

Z690 will be supported with next gen so quit being dumb. Also Z690 supports PCIE-5 (including m.2) and DDR5. Even Z690 DDR4 boards has PCIE5 and high end DDR4 will be good for a long time especially with overclocking. Just get that and you are golden for awhile ..

Well, it's never a good time to buy a pc. and there will always be new stuff coming. Only stuff not worth buying right now are DDR5 and GPUs. Everything else is a buy. Both 12th gen and zen 3 are great value.

As a SFF builder there is no way we are going to have SFX power supplies to power the next gen GPU and CPU if the consumption keeps going up. So I am good with the 5900x and 3080ti I have now.

Gordon's da man!
Im gonna keep waiting even if its another 12 months. Ive put up with this i5 2500k though a pandemic i think i reckon can hold out a bit longer.

I always buy my PC parts on Black Friday and Boxing Day. This year that looks like it will coincide with AM5 which will drop prices on previous gen.

How likely is it that the current high end stuff will still be around in six months, only at a nice discount? That could be an option?

I m waiting for meteor lake/arrow lake or zen 5. I ll be picking up rdna3 or Lovelace in the fall however. If the price is reasonable.
