Problem with Microsoft Hololens as a product line is that Hololens has become a US military technology with Microsoft already having a multibillion dollar DoD contract related to Hololens with units already being deployed in the field. With it being a technology now for use by US armored vehicle crews and certain JSOC units, it's not like Microsoft can release a commercial hololens product using any DoD funded improvements and there are now a whole bunch of military technology export restrictions they have to deal with.

I honestly hate how Valve only makes a quality-of-life change like this when they're about to release a new product or when it's most convenient for them. They should've done this ages ago, and I bet they'll only do a Steam VR overhaul when their next VR headset drops.
