Epic vs Steam - Why the Epic Store will Fail - Chris Titus Tech In this video, I go over the Epic Store vs Steam debate. I tell you why I believe Epic is making a fatal mistake. First let's see why Steam is being challenged -70/30 This once was a fair charge in 2000's, but recent developer surveys have noted that only 11% of them think its fair. -Steam is overcrowded and hard to stand out -DRM Heavy -No Ownership and Refunds (Well Refunds now after millions in fines) -Big Corporation that is focused on profits like all corporations Enter Epic Store -88/12 Split - More money for developers? -Barebones with very few features -DRM Heavy -No Ownership -Big Corporation focused on profits -Anti-Linux -After Fortnite Cash-cow dies down... their bandwidth will decrease Business -Add Value -Distinguish yourself and have a viable business plan Alternatives - GOG (DRM Free) - Itch.io (Indie) Why I still love Steam -Linux support and contribution -Feature Rich store -Ease of use Current OS Debian KDE 10 buster

Seems your prediction was wrong. Epic is making great strides. The customer service at steam is pathetic also. I have 1200 games there and went to refund ONE game for first time in 10+ years. Denied. Epic games I have spent like $50 with them have mostly free games in my account. I went to refund a game there having only purchased a few and they refunded. The Epic games store has my goodwill +100 Steam has it -100. Steam customer service would rather argue with me over a $24 game when i've spent a good 5 figures easy on their platform. Hope it was worth it for them, I won't be buying anything on there ever again and move all my game purchases over to Epic/GOG or any alternative first now. Steam shouldn't take customer service for granted. Epic has a foot in the door they would have NEVER Got if steam was halfway decent. Pretty funny they even have serious competition after where they were just a few years ago. They only have themselves to blame.

NO, Epic does not go away!! In fact, Epic is wonderful for the competition, in particular to get Steam to give more than they do to gamers. Are there games like -Grand Theft Auto: V- free on Steam? NO!! Competition between Epic and Steam is the best that could happen for gamers and, if there was a third player (GOG?), that would be even better!!
Your comments are highly biased because of Linux's stand by Epic!! The truth? Linux sucks compared to Windows 10 for MANY REASONS (THE BIG ONE BEING SOFTWARE AVAILABILITY COMPARED TO WINDOWS AND THAT SHOULD BE THE ONLY REASON NOT TO USE LINUX)!! That is the truth!!
Does it mean that I am against Linux? Not the slightest; in fact, I AM FOR LINUX AS I AM FOR ANY FREE, OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE. I use daily the VLC Media Player for instance that is both free and open source.
BUT you do make good points, especially your talk on adding value, distinguishing your games store from the other ones.

1. Epic will not fail , because simply they dont care if they pay money as they have much more than steam
2. not every single game because most of Ubisoft games are not even on steam , like division 2 with 40 million player , and other titles
3. games on Epic are much cheaper than steam fat ass Gabn want to get , for example runit king on steam is 40 $ for standard and 15 for epic games
4. steam is counting on its market to get money not games ,
5.we are now 3 years away , and Epic still there , getting thier exclusives and giving them to community for free
6.and guess what they have their UE 5 exclusives which is way much better than the best game from valve and their bad netcode engine
with all respect to you my friend :)

I have steam account, Battle.net account and now I have an epic account... I go where where the game I want to be playing is hosted and if its hosted on multiple platforms i go to who has the best price! Yes my games are spread across 3 platforms... who cares! It literally takes seconds to install an app its 2019! As for games being hosted.. all the physical discs I had 10-15 years ago are gone! They're all damaged, lost, stolen! I've even had a few that despite being spotless just wont load o.O ! All the Steam games I bought 10 years ago... I can install and play them right now! In fact that what i'm gonna do!! its a better use of time than typing this shit!

A lot of reviews I've seen are missing the fact that Epic is owning one of the world's most advanced game engine and they are successfully pushing it in to other areas such as TV and film and industrial Visualization. I don't want to comment on who will win or fail in stores war, but from what I see, Epic is waging epic wars in many domains. I think it was a mistake that valve abandoned source engine development and put all their eggs in store business. Because at the end of the day you want to have an echosystem that controls all aspects of your business and I see Epic is ahead in this.

Steam has the library. It has the support. It offers fantastic Linux support. It's the slightly less evil version of Amazon for pc games. In theory any company could fail including valve or Amazon, but at this point its extremely unlikely. So the store will likely be up for a long time to come.
So unless it's not on GOG, Steam will be my choice.
Publishers will propably also lose money if they are not on steam. I'd need to want to play a game very badly in order to download another client, creating an account and all of that stuff. Wich doesn't really happen.

Free games every week on Epic is an awesome value add to me. I think the logic is that if I have a bunch of games I will be more likely to keep the launcher installed, and be more open to buying games on the platform. I-ve been collecting the free games for 2 years now and have a pretty good collection.
That being said I haven-t actually given them any money. The website has no easy way to browse for deals, or search by genre.
I don-t disagree that they are likely to fail. I-m just surprised you didn-t mention the free games. It seems significant.

FINALLY someone with a backbone. I like you 100 times better now. I always wait a year when epic gets another exclusivity deal. I mean, think about it this is the only thing we can do to show we are discontent with the way things are going. From the developers perspective really... they devalue their own product because many people will not get their game while it is hot and after a year it's just another game on discount on Steam... epic loser launcher man o man

Well, apparently it came out in some court proceedings that Epic is bleeding money making serious losses trying to gain market share, and their third party game sales are abysmal compared to their Fortnite revenue. They're still convinced they can make it eventually, so I guess they'll just Continue to bleed money then. In that, at least, this prediction was correct.
If any good has come out of this, maybe it'll force Steam to improve their service.

My goodness, sounds like EA's Origin platform, and Steam assisted to help integrate it in games that require it due to DRM. Yet, it still fails to play Origin games and headache to get your password and account validated. So yes, GoG and Steam. But DRM is big barrier yet I understand piracy protection.
