Great video everything he said about hardware raid is true. I use the Dell Perc H700 in my main file server however I also have an extra H700 controller just in case. Also raid is not a backup I replicate my data over to a separate system so I can have a backup.

But how does ZFS take into account any mirroring you might want to do, like RAID 1, just in case one drive goes down but the other didn't?

Check out Kernsafe. Its a great inexpensive SAN solution. Been using this software SAN for six years with great success and speed.
