Pewdiepie N word legal defense - How Europe hate speech laws could destroy Pewdiepie - The Hated One Pewdiepie N word controversy sparks outrage across the Internet. But few mention that his actions fall under the European hate speech laws. This is Pewdiepie N word legal defense based on the hate speech laws of the United Kingdom, where Felix lives, and European Union Code of Conduct signed with Youtube. Pewdiepie N word legal defense and Europe hate speech laws Many people who defend Pewdiepie on the basis of the right to freedom of speech fail to recognize the fact that Europe generally doesn-t have a freedom of speech. Or more precisely, many European countries have strict hate speech and libel laws. His only option for legal defense would be to prove his words were not intended to stir up racial hatred, or to be threatening, abusive, or insulting. Judges would have to determine whether this apology -. is enough to prove his intent was not a racial insult. Using his words, he probably didn-t threaten anyone, and probably didn-t abuse anyone. But insult is a very broad, general way to describe an offense and Pewdiepie-s act could well fall into this category. I think if Pewdiepie had only a million subscribers, this wouldn-t have been in headlines on more than three websites. But since he is where he is, he is often a scapegoat that is wanted to be held accountable for all the damage advertising controversy has done to Youtube. What is your take on this story? Do you feel like Pewdiepie violated some European laws? I hope this video helped you clarify the European perspective on Pewdiepie N word controversy and free speech in general. I think what-s more important about this case is not Pewdiepie, but the value of the freedom of speech itself in Western democracy. We need to have a conversation about this, but without emotions and political agenda. Freedom of speech affects us all, irrespective of political affiliations

1. There's difference between the right of free speech and spreading nazist sentiment (second is illegal, and/or is not accepted by civil people, and for a good reason (even though I am against an authoritarian government.
2. PDP is clearly lost in alt-right ridiculous belief system. I hope you giving him this benefit of the doubt is not due to sharing same system of beliefs.
3. Let's not kid ourselves, free speech in today society, if it goes against the powers that be, and especially if it's effective (Assange, Snowden, Dotcom etc and who knows how many less popular dissidents) - you don't have the free pass. Spreading nazism? It's ok, it doesn't go against the powerful, in fact it for for them.
4. Someone that sees Nazism as a bad thing, does not joke about it, especially not that way. Same goes about the N-word. This is not to say that someone has to be jailed for it, but that someone certainly should not be praised -for being so brave to speak his truth- or something like that, he should instead be criticised, unfollowed and forgotten (I mean as a racist, not as a human being. And then again, there's a thin line between free speech and where one's speech starts to harm other individuals or groups of individuals.

I disagree that the US has better freedom of speech, look at what happened to Colin Kaepernick when he didn't stand for the national anthem and when he kneeled down for the anthem at another game. He is listed as a 'free agent', which is code for unemploye since 2016. I don't know enough about PewDiePie to comment further, but why would you even get someone to hold up a sign saying 'kill all jews' or whatever. Yes he has the freedom to say that but others must be allowed the freedom to condone it and if it is within the context of race hate speech it can't be allowed, race hate speech leads to race hate. It is easy for white people to 'play' and have fun with risque subjects because white people have never faced mass slavery, racism, racist murder or genocide. For those who have this isn't a game - it can be life or death. As I say I don't know exactly what PewDiePie's intentions are, and I am going to research him now but nonetheless facists are all for freedom of speech but never endorse it when they get in power.

DISCLAIMER: I do not endorse nor defend derogatory behavior. This is just a mere analysis of the legal situation Pewdiepie could be in. I also believe in the United States model of absolute freedom of speech, which is not present in the European Union and its member states. I believe absolute free speech is a fundamental right to protect individuals from government oppression and censorship. While I respect that everyone should have this right, I do not agree with every content that falls under free speech.
