Looking At Six Flavors of Ubuntu 20.10 -Groovy Gorilla- DistroTube In this video, I take a quick look at the recently released (or soon-to-be-released) versions of Ubuntu 20.10 codenamed Groovy Gorilla. I will briefly look at the flagship Ubuntu distribution as well as: Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie and Ubuntu MATE. - https://releases.ubuntu.com/20.10/ - https://kubuntu.org/ - https://xubuntu.org/ - https://lubuntu.me/ - https://ubuntubudgie.org/ - https://ubuntu-mate.org/

I'm not very pleased with the 20.04 release and onwards, because they cut lots of legacy packages. For instance, any application needing libssl1.0.0.so cannot run. Also, all of the applications that I've made, requiring QRegExValidator(), are now broken. To fix this, I have to include the respective library in every file that needs it. Furthermore, Qucs is no longer there nor is possible to install it, although on 18.04 LTS was pretty much discontinued (but it could be installed there).

You promised me as a fan (joking) that you will not present gnome desktop based environments and now look what you have done ! :) I-m starting to question about the myth that DT is not bald :) Thank you DT. Awesome work !!! It would be nice if you could present some parameters and tuning of the systems. (like diffs between sysctl -a and security policies implemented by them, modules of the kernel, what .configs have the compiled kernel ). BTW thank you very much !!!

Vim comes pre-installed on the XPS ubuntu images as does Chrome and Chromium.. course I remove them apps and install Firefox, but you also get a few more useful tidbits in that image. Of course it's not helpful if you don't own Dell and have access to the images. Still, it's worth noting.

Would you recommend #UbuntuDDE 20.10 (Deepin Desktop Environment)?
It looks beautiful, sleek and clean.
I've heard about the security concerns sending system & hardware data to third-party outside servers.
I just dislike Plasma3. Gnome is okay.

The green on Mate is because -mate- is a beverage we drink here in argentina, uruguay and brasil. And you can guess the color of the beverage. The logo also simbolizes the recipient we use to drink it, also called -mate-.

Nice review, but it's missing the versions of Ubuntu Cinnamon and Ubuntu Kylin 20.10.
Trisquel 9 has been released this week too. It would be nice to see a review of Trisquel 9 with the both DE: MATE and LXDE.

I don't believe anyone who is able to use Vim will use Ubuntu, their choice not to offer it by default makes sense. What if people start getting into vim, become power users and move to Arch?

Why not just run top to get a quick look at system resources? Sure htop or gotop is better but the distro should let the user decide what flavor they want to install.

Holy shit Ubuntu's GNOME is ugly. Who thought it'd be a good idea to have a transparent dock, a solid panel, a dark purple background, and a white and orange theme?

I remember the old days when Gnome was the fast, lightweight DE and KDE was the big heavy bloated thing with -pretty graphics-. Oh how the times have changed...
