How to use SharePoint Document Library - Beginners Kevin Stratvert learn how you can use document libraries in Microsoft SharePoint. A document library provides a secure place to store files where you and your co-workers can find them easily, work on them together, and access them from any device at any time. For example, you can use a document library on a site in SharePoint to store all files related to a specific project or a specific client. Adding files or moving files between folders is as easy as dragging and dropping them from one location to another. - Additional resources - All your Microsoft 365 tools: http://www.office.com - Beginner overview of SharePoint: https://youtu.be/5nrxp7lc0so - Beginner overview of Teams: https://youtu.be/VDDPoYOQYfM - Beginner overview of Power Automate: https://youtu.be/dDO4Y4aDYXw

Great video. I have another issue with SharePoint that I'd like to do and not sure if you can help me out. I want to create a page in my SharePoint site that contains a table. In that table, one column will display a link to a file. So far so good, I have that part done. What I want to do is give an option for the users to set a subscription so that if there's a change to that file they get alerted. I see that's possible when you show a Full Document Library. But in my case, I don't want to show the basic Document Library widget. I want to show my own table, where another column will display metadata about that file, author, maintenance schedule, etc. Is there a way to get the link that SharePoint uses to set subscriptions so that the users get alerted to changes to that file?

Thanks for the tutorial Kevin! It was really good! But I have a question about file transfer thing. Let me give a quick example. Let's say I have a company. And in this company we have different departments like Ne (company's name) IT Services , Ne Restaurants... I created new team sites for this departments. And each departments have sub parts like accounting, advertisement... Then I have main sharepoint site too (Ne Company). And in this site I have that sub parts too (accounting, advertisement...). What I want is when someone edits, adds etc. files in other departments sharepoint sites I want the same work done in our main sharepoint site (Ne Company). I want to sync folders between sites but it must be one way (Departments => Company). How can I do that? Thanks for everything.

Great video but problem is that if you have multiple users synching the site with their OneDrive, it creates several issues. If someone delete a folder, the OneDrive synch bring back the folder and nobody can delete it. Also, when you have 2000 folders, very hard to navigate quickly within all the folders. Ex: You can view all your folders and type R to get to the folders starting with the letter R. Not easy to use TEAMS/SharePoint when you have a lot of folders. Also, no idea why you cannot move a folder in teams but can move a file... so weird :)

Wow! This is my first of your videos and the best instructional video I've ever had the please of listening to an learning from thoroughly...very clear, concise, focused, direct, perfect paced, with well coordinated point/talk demonstrations as you go. I learned so much but also - more importantly - unraveled so much confusion I had before. Thank you!
Perhaps a tutorial to businesses on how to present and record tutorials for so many who are so bad at it.

I love how these MS marketing employees (pretending to be tech experts) skip past the difficult aspects of their app's crappy UX. Like how Kevin says nothing about where you may wish to place your synced libraries on your PC --- critical if you have existing directories for work you wish to transfer into a SharePoint experience. I know NO ONE who enjoys SharePoint - not one person finds it easy or intuitive.

Hi Kevin and thanks for another great video on sharepoint online. I have a problem though:
Being a sharepoint admin how do I stop users from creating folders on the main documents root folder and still allow them to create subfolders under the first level folders? I know that I can remove the -new folder- option in Library Advanced settings but that prevents even the admin from creating folders. Is there a way? Thank you.

Hi there, is it possible to add a new column for single line text that I can edit on the Folder level? I'm only able to do it editable on document level, I wanted to have it on the folder as well, let's say to store an ID for that Folder that has a Folder Name, but I don't want to have the name as ID-01 Folder Name, instead I want to have ID-01 in a separated column, is that possible to achieve?

If theres a free-for-all ability to create new libraries, how do you keep it from becoming a complete disoganized mess? I have a 60-user company and we already have a libraries called -Budget-, -Budgets- and -Budgeting- and no one know when to use what. Also, how do you get a list of libraries? There are -recent- and -favorites- but no obvious way to browse whats available.

Great video! I have 1 Q. Suppose I have 5 folders in a document library. I'd like to add a column in only one of the folder in the same document library. Once the column is added, for some reasons it is replicated to all the folders in document library. How can I restrict that the column is only added relevant folder not all. Thank you in adavnce

Hi Kevin, thank you for sharing the video. I'm having issues sorting the filters pane in alphabetical order. I have a calculated column to get the 1st letter of the client name. When I pinned it to the filters pane, it is not showing in alphabetical order. I have add the column sorting in the view, but I can't get this to work. Any ideas?
