Cancel Culture and Safe Spaces Destroying Linux DistroTube

Cancel Culture and Safe Spaces Destroying Linux DistroTube The Linux Foundation has disinvited someone from one of their conferences because of their political opinion, citing that they want their conferences to be safe spaces. If the Linux Foundation wants to be a part of today's cancel culture, maybe it's time for the Linux community to cancel the Linux Foundation. - https://reclaimthenet.org/linux-foundation-censorship-kubecon/ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YO1DTeGxog&t=203s - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tone_policing - https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Cancel%20Culture

Same thing happened in the Drupal community, a COC was imposed on the community and as soon as corporate money flowed in anyone who was deemed to have violated this COC for whatever reason was cancelled. One notable person was a very senior Drupal core dev who was doxed / outed for his choice of fetishes etc and was ousted from the community - banned for life. Frankly this sort of thing is abhorrent. I'm a lefty liberal and the idea of cancelling someone because they wore a maga hat is ridiculous, even if he was a full blown Trump supporter it makes no difference - the path forward is not to cancel people, to -them and us- those we don't agree with but to open the door and talk to each other - anything else just silos people into echo chambers. DT bang on that it's corporate money driving this, I've seen this many times in the FOSS communities.

Aight. I like the way you made your position so clear yet it seems to have gone completely over a good number of people's heads. I do completely agree with you on this one, though I do suspect we disagree on other things. I have been on the fence for a few days as to start participating in your community, but I think I might be right at home even when I/we disagree on something. Time to binge watch I guess.

I mostly agree what you are saying most of the time, but I think in some cases I think you are to strictly (not in this case maybe). I am from germany and in germany we have the problem, that faschists (and also other radicals) try to infiltrate the society at every point they found. I think cancel culture of radicalsof all kinds (and this is difficult) would help to create a better society.

While I tend to agree with you on the concept of instantly cancelling someone, they still need to be held accountable for their actions and words. Gotta say, I like most of your work; even though you're starting to seem a bit like a dick to me. Between this and your views on Stallman, I've been tempted to unsub though. I find, nearly all, Republicans distasteful, to say the least.

It's one thing to disagree on economics. It's another to disagree on the basic rights of humans. While I don't think he should have been removed from the conference, the idea that -big bad cancel culture and safe spaces- have -infiltrated society- is just ridiculous. Sorry people don't want to have their basic human dignity questioned.

Quick accusation without evidence is apparently _enough_ to cancel anyone regardless if true or not and people think they can come to their own conclusions by reading only the headline without spending time verifying the relevancy. Social media is seriously turning it's userbase into bipolar/schizos without them even realizing it.

The fact that you even covered this... subbed. This cancel culture shit (especially over political affiliation or belief) is BEYOND absurd. You'd think the Linux community would be better than that, considering the whole idea behind a FOSS belief system.

Thankfully I distanced myself from social media back in 2017 ish? I'm 23 now so I guess 18 at the time. Never had twitter, but seeing the shit that happens on there made me want to not sue social media at all. Would recommend, 10/10

-Political opinion- and -cancel culture- are phrases bigots use to justify their hate. There are opinions and then there are common truths that should be put into practice to help make this world a better place.

trumptards tried to cancel my vote... if the Linux Foundation doesn't want them at their seminars that's perfectly fine with me... they are a private organization... so stop being such a f'ing snowflake.
