Manjaro Awesome Edition DistroTube I'm taking a quick look at one of Manjaro's community editionstheir Awesome WM edition! One problem though. It doesn't look like there is a recent ISO, so this could be dicey. - https://manjaro.org/ - https://forum.manjaro.org/t/manjaro-awesome-18-1-0-rc4-iso-testing-branch/95302

Manjaro is the best Linux distro I have used so far. I think it gives the best of everything. Everything works out of the box and you get access to vast software in the AUR as well. Best of both worlds imo. I-ve used Ubuntu to start but I think Manjaro is better for a new user. Assuming the use case is a daily drive for home use. As far as stability goes, I use the timeshift backup utility as soon as I install the operating system just in case. I set it up for all possible backups so if I do have an issue I can go back to the last hour, day, month etc. I haven-t had to use it so far. Everything has been stable for me. I am using older hardware and I am using the XFCE version of Manjaro. Just my experience and opinion.

Typically, a new user wouldn't be on the testing branch. In fact, I'd have recommended entering the shell command after installing the ISO to switch back to the stable branch, launch pamac and enable downgrade in settings, refresh mirrors and check for updates. If the main hosted ISO is particularly outdated then I would put that down to being community maintained.
You are feckin brutal in your videos. I wholeheartedly disagree with some of your strong opinions, yet for some reason I can't stop watching your videos, lol. Interesting quick look still. Thanks for the up.

I recently tried out the manjaro awesome edition 18.1, last updated in Nov 2019, on a laptop natively and it worked really really well. Its very usable right out of the box and even special keys, brightness, sound, keyboard backlight all worked, without customization. Environment is very light, I much prefer it to gnome, kde or xfce. I briefly tried manjaro lxqt, which is also very nice looking, but the awesome edition is more fully developped. It has become my daily driver now and I'm customizing it to my liking.

It's too bad that Tiny Core doesn't have Awesome, Tiny Core can be used with I3, but Awesome is much easier to use. Never have to worry about getting 400 or 500 updates with Tiny Core since it has maybe 1 or 2 updates every other month. I consider distros like Arch or Fedora, that have constant updates to not be as stable as Tiny Core because Tiny Core is so stable that it doesn't need constant updates.

I got my first install of arch last week due to your arch install video, then your suggestions of awesome wm, lead me to find Eric Dubois... and sure enough he had arch linux with spices of arco linux and it all revolves around awesome.
I have found my Ideal setup. Perfect rolling distro that requires a little care. Thank you DT.

It would've been interesting to see if Rofi worked before the updates, and to check what font it was trying to use and see if you could fix it quick.
Also about the old ISO thing, if you use a netinstall you grab the latest stuff from the internet and the ISO can be really small. I think this is the way to go for rolling stuff.

Hey brotha, Thanks for testing this out. I have to say that Awesome was the first Manjaro I tried on this challenge and it's very nice but with being a newb to Awesome and not having a shortcut cheat sheet, I quickly installed the i3 version which worked out better for me.

DT, every time I install Manjaro I use Manjaro Architect so I can setup LVM and LUKS (couldn't get it to work on the GUI installer) so it doesn't matter how old the ISO is. It's basically a dialog driven installer that's better than the ones I've seen for vanilla Arch.

02:40 You mean if have a rolling release installed, and I do not open my computer for a year, everything will be broken? And maybe I will have to re-download and install the distro? This is worse than having a non-rolling release!!

The difference between Firefox and Browser is that -Browser- is your favorite! You can have many different browsers in your system but hotkeys and launchers usually works with favorite one, which you can select in settings manager.
