I agree with you if you ARE valuable to the company and if you are YOUNG. Here, in Australia, age and experience are not valued. I am 64 and consider myself lucky to have been able to change jobs recently. It was no easy feat. It took me 2 years of looking to accomplish that. You must be able to project yourself well in interviews and have the connections to get that all important interview. I didn't have the connections so I was forced to compete with online applications. Even though I had a lot of experience, I only had 2 interviews!

I learned that Microsoft is putting out an new operating system called Windows 365. It's a could based operating system. That means all the software and files that I want to run on Windows 365 will have to been in the cloud not store on my SSD. I'm thinking to upgrade my 6 year old laptop to Apple's Mini Mac and use Parallel to run Windows 11. Can you do a YouTube Video comparing Windows 365 (which will run on any system that has an internet access) compare running Windows on a Mac using Parallel.

You are lucky that Microsoft loves you and they were able to prove it. Not all companies are like Microsoft or even Amazon wherein as you said ( I strongly AGREE) that more than the salary they give.....it is more satisfying how they appreciate and value you as their employee. That is not my case. I used to work in a company here in the Philippines for 20 straight years. And in just a blink of an eye, I found myself out of work just because of a certain NEW people. Most managers really SUCKS

I was and still am, a great believer in.. If your not happy in the job, the you shouldn't be there. I work for a UK Bio Medical research company for 13 years. Loved and enjoyed every minute of it. I was very much appreciated by the highest level both of whom spoke, I had the great hands they had ever seen. One [1] being a professor] An American corporation took over and I left. Their strategy was terrible, work ethics and approach terrible.

Must be nice to be a young white married man with lots of career options. I really wish that my single mom working a blue-collar job had that many options. She has such shitty management and they don't make their people feel appreciated, but she can't afford to leave as it would put so much financial stress and uncertainty in our situation. It's not as easy as Kevin puts it. Not for everyone at least.

Good choice to stay at Microsoft. You are lucky to have the chance to this opportunity with another Company. I also agree with you that money doesn't guarantee happiness. I also had a similar situation back in the 1980's straight out of college. Not the same amount of money but it did feel good that the firm that I was planning to leave really wanted me to stay with them.
Thanks for sharing this story.

I'm glad everything worked out for you and that Microsoft really wanted to keep you. The other scenario is in addition to the counter offer, they ask you to document everything you're doing and also teach one or two other people how to perform your daily tasks and at some point, they will let you go.

This strategy works, but it leads only to this result for top performers. And you don't decide if you are a top performer, the people who pay for your work decide this. You should be sure that you have plan B or this can easily lead to -never hold up travelers!-.

Excellent video. I do wonder what was the time period from when you interviewed at Amazon to when you left Microsoft? It doesn't seem to be that long. You got everything you wanted but left Microsoft anyways. Just curious what changed?

Thanks for the share Kevin. You know you are worth a lot more. If I was you , I woud not even consider a salary increase of less than 100% and 4 days work (to enable your Youtube work). 300k min + shares + options + 4day working week?
