Windows Games on Linux - WINE Versions - Chris Titus Tech Windows Games on Linux - WINE Versions Applications, Gaming, and all the different ways Linux deals with Windows Programs. Almost every Windows program uses WINE albeit in through a different program like Steam Proton, CrossOver, PlayOnLinux, and Lutris. So, lets go over how to use it and all the different versions of it out there winehq-staging: this is the most recent testing wine version. winehq-stable: this is the current stable wine version (probably the one you should install) winehq-devel: this package is used to provide development headers, mostly used by third party software compilation. I'm about to move to Linux and I'm watching a ton of your videos about all the Linux OS', but I haven't spotted any SteamOS video from you. I know you always recommend PopOS and Mint, but why never SteamOS?
I did google a little the other day, and I think I found like 5 or more websites that list that OS as the best for gaming, but never actually found any reason why. Most that I've read was that everyone just chooses that one nowadays.
Do you have any opinion about SteamOS or none at all? Thank you in advance, and thank you in general for making such good videos.

Great video! One thing I'd like to learn more is this -Proton wine builds (-tkg, -GE, official or others) are not suited for use outside of Steam, even if the option is provided by some third party tools. Doing so can break the whole way they are designed to work and thus is NOT recommended.- I've used proton in Lutris and it seems to be working fine but according to TKG I shouldn't. Maybe make a video explaining why we shouldn't use Proton in Lutris?

Hi Chris! I'm completely new to Linux, been using Windows my whole life. I want to ask whether I will be able to play EA Sports NHL 99 on Linux and with the help of Wine or Proton? I've read a few articles that retro Windows games from the 90's actually run on distributions like Lite, Puppy or Ubuntu. Any advice is much appreciated!

I use Play on Linux, because I can never get Lutris to work right and Cross Over grabs all the resources to itself, and failed to get the program at the time running. Play on Linux has worked for everything so far, but you have given me two more to look at, thanks.

Wow, I remember the last video on this and a lot really has changed since then. I don't remember seeing development progress this rapidly before. Maybe the day when we can liberate all the gamers from the shackles of Windows will be here sooner than later!

I am a Computer Information Systems major at my college, my professor has said before that in between the time it took her to walk from upstairs to down the thing that she was looking at had changed and she had to relearn what was going on with it.

#ChrisTitusTech What Linux Distro are you running in this video? Sorry if you already explained it in the beginning but I have really bad short term memory. Also I'm still watching it right now and don't feel like rewinding it.

World would be a better place if all apps and games developers were building and testing their products on Wine instead of Windows. That could maximize the potential market. Let's get started.

Could you tell me how Wine is?
Can it run most games well without much headache?
And would it run fine in my Intel UHD 620?
I'm concerned about the performance difference being too great

to all noob. In winecfg u should put some kind of libraries for software or game that you want to use.
If you don't know what kind of libraries for it, you can check in winehq website
